Hi there!
Just a short question:
When working in Live, I don't have sound in any other application, because Live uses the driver. But I need at least Sound in an external Editor.
Any solutions?
thanks

I'm not quite sure whether asio4all (generic asio drivers) supports multichannel, but it's worth investigating:
http://www.asio4all.com/
Edit: I just checked the site and saw that he has posted a new v2 which indeed does have multiclient support.

or you can try out http://www.asio4all.com/
The new version is suppose to be multi-client. Haven't tried it on my pc cuz I don't have this problem but I did try it on a laptop a few months back and thoses drivers worked pretty good.

Aww, what can I say..
But yea I agree, I have been using asio4all for some time now with ac97 (yup I know, haven't still got around getting a new card after getting rid of pulsar) and it works surprisingly well.

I'm not certain if Live is able/willing to give up control of the ASIO driver when you open up another programme that requires or is configured to use it. Can anyone here confirm the true answer to that one?
Having said that, my audio editing software is Adobe Audition which doesn't use ASIO. Because it uses WDM drivers Live has no problem integrating with it.
In my experience (which is perhaps limited) you only seem to need an ASIO driver if you wish to record MIDI within the application (to reduce latency). I record multitrack audio directly in Audition without problem, but ReWire in Reason and the latency makes it unusable for live recording of Reasons instruments in Reason as Audition's ReWire slave (if you see what I mean...

I haven't tried it myself, but check this thread:
http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=
Ok, so if the original poster would use asio4all for Live and wdm for the audio editor, shouldn't it offer a solution around his single client audio drivers? Anyway, it's worth trying at least.
Edit: As a matter of fact, ASIO is nowadays not as important as it used to be before WDM was implemented. Back in the time when there was no WDM (and that really isn't that many years ago), ASIO was practically the only viable option for any serious audio work.

That's how ASIO is suppose to work. Only 1 app using Asio at a time but on another thread somebody mentioned using 2 apps at a time with theses drivers. Since the driver is actually a hack, it might be possible to use it this way. Can't confirm though but it should be worth a try for the original poster of this thread.I'm not certain if Live is able/willing to give up control of the ASIO driver when you open up another programme that requires or is configured to use it. Hi---
I just did a little experiment: I ran Live, Sound Forge, Windows Media player and Quintessential player simulanteously.
No Problems here. I'm using an Ozone soundcard.

WHich of those specifically used ASIO as opposed to MME or WDM drivers? WIndows Media, for example, doesn't use the ASIO drivers. I doubt that Sound Forge does, but would be interested to know... in the same way that Audition doesn't use ASIO, because as has been pointed out, for the typical functionality of the program ASIO simply isn't required/an issue.Spotte wrote:Hi---

The strange thing is, when using SoundEngineFree as editor, the sample in Live is "offline", which is not the case in Audacity!
But in SEFree it says then, that it doesn't support the format, which is strange, because it is a wav file.
Any ideas?
thanks
