I am trying to export a midi file out of FLStudio. I want to use the midi I programmed in FLS triggering BFD in Tracktion instead. I know I can use a vst but then it doesn't freeze or export.

So how do I export the midi file then. I have done it several times but there is never any data in the file?

In Fl 4.2(?) under the tools menu, under misc. macros, there is an option of "prepare for midi" - make sure your file is saved as a normal .flp first as this will convert everything to midi only for export. Then simply render as midi.

Thanks for the help. I am pretty desperate on this one.

I have the file saved as a flp file and I am not really sure what you mean by a normal flp file. Is there another way it could be saved?

So all I did was hit the macro you pointed out to me and rendered. The macro split the song into kik snare hat etc. but still no data in the midi file? I will get back to trying that method and hopefully somthing will come of it.

Thanks again.

<edit> I am not really sure what I did. I saved the song to the desktop so I didn't overwrite the good version. Then I exported the file and, what do you know. I seems to have worked. There is data thare anyway. I just have to import it into Tracktion and see if it still sounds the same. Thanks for that.

Well, this next bit of advice may not be helpful at all, but if you select the midi mapper for your system output, and set the channel in the lower right hand box, then use the macro, it always works for me. (That is probably either really encouraging or a depressing :D ).

so recap:

OPtions->MIDI settings
select midi mapper in dialog box
change port # to 0 to avoid any confusion....
tools->misc macros->prepare for midi export
export as MIDI

hope that works as I am not a MIDI expert :help:

Nope it was really encouraging. I did exactly what you said in your last post and no problemo. Thanks very much. I'm saved.

Well I would be if I had saved the full flp before a system crash but you can't help me with that.

It's always worth checking the FL Trashbin folder when something like this happens.

From the enclosed doc
'When you overwrite a song file, the previous one is not really overwritten, instead it's placed here as a backup, so that in case you made a mistake your project is not lost.'
Saved me a few times :D

Hey thanks Ian. I am in luck though. I found one I had tucked away for emergencies in the song folder for the Tracktion version of the same song.

Thank >whoever< for D:\

Not done it for a while, Im at work so I cant check but I thought you had to copy the piano roll data to a Midi out channel and then export it from there.

Could be wrong, just thought Id muddy the waters a bit
