Ableton: multi-sample drum rack load, with different settings from default?

Hi folks,

I'm looking for some workflow suggestions in Ableton.

My goal: I want to load 128 vocal chop WAVs into a drum rack.

Problem is, if i just drag the samples into the drum rack, it'll put each sample inside a simpler, in one shot mode.

But i'd i want to have a short release and not one-shot mode, so it's quite tedious, as i audition each sample, to have to each time select "classic" and then adjust the release for every pad.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to achieve this, so that it automatically sets up each Simpler how i need it?

Strangely, i notice that if you tweak a Simpler, and save it as the default, that doesn't effect the settings the Simpler has when you drag a sample into a pad (it will always be one-shot).

And is it even possible that it loads up a Sampler, not a Simpler?

Thanks in advance!

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

Thanks, but i do my slicing in Reaper (more tweakable than Lives slicing), so i don't think that'll work for me!

Do you mean if you save an instance of Simpler as the default for Simpler, or if you save a Pad instance of Simpler as the default for a Drum Rack Pad?

I can save a Pad instance of anything as the default for a Drum Rack Pad, including Sampler, or Simpler set to 1-shot mode, or some non-sample Instrument.

Also; you could just create the Drum Rack (all pads prefilled with empty Simpler/Sampler/whatever) as you want it as a Drum Rack preset(*) then drag the samples in afterwards?

* possibly even the default Drum Rack preset,if you always want it set up this way

It doesn't what i do with defaults, presets or whatever, if i drag multiple WAVs from the browser onto drumrack pads, they'll always have the same settings (one-shot simpler).

Sounds like you're using a version with a bug or problem, then.

So dont drag a WAV onto an empty drumrack pad. Like I said, prefill your Pads with empty but preconfigured Simpler/Sampler/whatever, and save as a Drum Rack preset

Superb, that works, thanks a million!

So when you said 'It doesn't what i do with defaults, presets or whatever' you hadnt actually tried the second thing I suggested which was "save a Pad instance of Simpler as the default for a Drum Rack Pad?"

sigh.

Thanks also, i think it's just that the other guy explained it really succinctly, and then the penny dropped! :phew:
