Another thread got me thinking: what would I keep if I had to strip down my massive plugin collection?
DAW
Reaper
VA's
Repro-1/5
TAL J-8
OBX-treme (though I hate the MIDI learn not persisting - this should be fixed soon though)
The Legend
Other Synths
Hive
VCV Rack
Drums
EZDrummer3 (even though I have Superior Drummer and BFD3)
VPROM
TRIAZ
Samplers
Kontakt
UVI Workstation
Compressors
TrackComp
Channel Strips
bx Console SSL 9000 J - just for one SSL style console
Delays
ValhallaDelay
Saturation
Don't know. Maybe Kelvin. Maybe something like the The Oven or Silver Bullet. Weird that I don't have an obvious favorite.
EQs
EQuillibrium
Filters
The Drop
Guitar
ToneX
The Scream
TH-U (just for the Supercab's fluid IR's)
Limiters
Limitless
Modulation
Chief Chorus
Chorus Ensembler
Chorus Dimension-D
Dr Phase
Tube Modulator
Reverb
Fuse V-Rev 63
ValhllaVintageVerb
ValhallaRoom
ValhallaSupermassive
Lexicon-224
UADx Sound City
UADx Hitsville Chambers
UVI Plate
IK Fame Studios
...definitely the category I'd keep the most, by far.
Tape Machines
IK Tape 80
Utility
Pro-DS
Pro-G
Acon DeNoise
What are yours?

In that case, I would keep it simple and just use stock plug ins of my DAW only (Ableton).

I never really drew any inspiration from stock DAW plugins. Though Ableton has some Cytomic plugins built-in right? So I could certainly see those working.christian f. wrote: Wed Dec 25, 2024 3:44 pm In that case, I would keep it simple and just use stock plug ins of my DAW only (Ableton).

my collection contains more than 10 thousand vst plugins
all freeware, as far as i know
i have saved them on dvds
twice, in case of dvd failure
a lot of them, i find...
cannot be found anymore
i learned the lesson of keeping things...
from my days of collecting cds
i would get rid of bands like bauhaus only to want it again later
i got rid of my eagles greatest hits a decade or so ago
and now i get the urge to get that cd
the difference is that it's easier to get that eagles cd...
compared to vst plugins i mean
yup, some are extremely hard to find now
for example, i cannot find the vst plugins by the developer named...
direct approach

It is very uninspiring, but at the same time it could be a nice challenge too.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Dec 25, 2024 3:49 pmI never really drew any inspiration from stock DAW plugins. Downsizing to the absolute minimum.
I do think Ableton has a very good set of stock plug ins though.

for me the point of downsizing is not to make everything constricted and uninspiring (that will be the case if i use the stock Renoise plugins) but to have only the plugins that i really like and use often
aliasing plugin owner

I save my stuff on a Sandisk usb flashdrive. DVDs get torn up. vst3 isnt very good, and there isn't anything comparable to the 32 bit years from before, except for updates.

At some point you would be doing us a favour by putting that up on archive.org. That is one massive archive.

i just found out that a lot of my plugins crash FL Studio and I'm thinking about switching to FL Studio.
So now I gotta figure out which ones to keep and it ain't pretty.

Plugins crash FL Studio so now you're gonna switch to FL Studio?... Are you in some sort of 'Fruity Loop'?!1mjolnir wrote: Thu Dec 26, 2024 12:01 am i just found out that a lot of my plugins crash FL Studio and I'm thinking about switching to FL Studio.

I will save everyone the hassle. This thread will eventually have all plugins listed, hence, to avoid FOMO, don't eliminate anything but DO acquire everything.
You're welcome.

@eLawnMust: I used to only use the step editor and samples in FL Studio, but I'm gonna go all the way into FL Studio I think.
I know certain plugins work, but others I know crash/freeze the DAW. So yeah, it ain't pretty. I put forth the effort to reload some of the best 32-bit plugins I could think of months ago, so I'd have compatibility with EnergyXT. But I recently discovered how to make the MIDI in FL Studio more like the MIDI in EnergyXT (which is good). I'm not very good at explaining this, but basically, different DAWs have different advantages, and some of them get crashed by specific VSTs, others don't. FL Studio crashes on some 32-bit VSTs' EnergyXT crashes on any 64-bit VSTs' and Linux REAPER can load all of them, but it's MIDI is much more annoying to me than the others.
Anyways, to answer the question.
I already think I'm gonna keep any CLAP plugins since they don't seem to crash.
