Space Adventure of 1965!

Improvised soundscape featuring Bram Bos and Jakob Haq semimodular synth Solderbox and four samples from the my new Patreon Reward pack 47 (December 2024). They are from toy ads from the 60’s that are now in the Public Domain.

On a iPad, I recorded (screen recording) the synth part in realtime with a generative preset and I fired up Elf Audio Koala FX at 1:28 to further mangle it. I then imported the audio in Reaper on a desktop computer. The top track is the synth part and the 4 tracks below each contain 1 sample. The samples are complex, all having more than one sonic element. Meaning there’s a human voice and one or more sound effects and/or music too.

I imported the 5 rendered audio tracks in a video editor to combine them with the original iPad screen recording (audio muted) and the screen recording of Reaper (audio muted). This way, it’s easy to see when a sample is playing on top of the synth.

And used a few images extracted from the toy ads to illustrate the story.
