Audio items bounce level

At which dB level you bounce your audio items?
Issue : if bounced item level is too hi : mastering chain distortion, if too low, the item is not clearly heard.

Is -6db a good compromise ?
I noticed a differrence of a couple of db between bitwig db vu meter and tonebooster loundnessmeter.
Is Bitwig db meter precise enought and which one to trust ?
Perharps it is not the same DB scale used ?

I always aim for -3. Won't clip and you can always turn it down (or up if need be)
