Hi, this is my first post and I'm new to synthesis.
I'm trying to recreate the zap type sound that Vince Clarke used in Depeche Mode and Yazoo as well as more recent groups such as Daily Planet and Johan Braekstrom.
As examples
Depeche Mode Tora Tora Tora 1:15
Depeche Mode New Life 0:25
Yazoo Situation 0:34 onwards
Yazoo I before e except after c 2:01
Daily Planet Trust at 2.00 minutes
Johan Braekstrom Running away from myself At the start
I have tried making a zap sound but this sounds wrong. Any suggesions on how to create this type of sound? I'm using soft synths.
Thanks

used the Johan Braekstrom Running away from myself song because I wasn't sure what you meant by zap sound but I think I got it right?
Let me know.

I'm not sure about the synths used on Speak and Spell, but Vince Clarke used the Sequential Circuits Pro One heavily in Yazoo. I think I read somewhere that it's his favourite synth. If you want snappy, aggressive filters, the Pro One is what I'd be looking at. If you want software, U-he have done a fantastic job modelling it with Repro, and you get the Prophet 5 thrown inchasf42 wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 7:53 pm I'm trying to recreate the zap type sound that Vince Clarke used in Depeche Mode and Yazoo
