Is there a forum dedicated to laptop performers out there?

Let me be specific. I already know about LivePA.org. It's awesome, but not real friendly toward software based performers. I also know about em411.com, but there's just not a whole lot of activity there.

I'm also trying to avoid a group where there's just a bunch of keyboard players who use their setups in a BAND context.

I am much more referring to non-stop DJ or Electronic music performances ala Monolake or Kraftwerk. Remember, laptops are the main focus.

Thanks! ~M<

I'm a lappy man myself, and I'm more than comfertable right here. ;) I think if you had some burning questions about laptop efficiency durning a live show, or devices best to input and output data for your lappy - you could ask right here and get some really good advice. (Well NOT HERE - but in Hardware, Set-up, and Config and other appropriate forums here. ;) )

Right on. I'll always be checking out KVR, my favorite forum of all.

But, I would still love a forum or (better yet) a website dedicated to this subject......

I don't know if there'd be THAT much to talk about on a dedicated lappy forum outside of what's covered in a general PC/Mac forum such as KVR? I mean there's probably only 5-10 good Audio Units for lappy's, and about the same with PCMCIA/Serial MIDI connectors I imagine? And the rest would be product specific problems best dealt with Sony, Toshiba, M-Audio and so on? I'd be leery as hell on a 'Laptop Music' forum if someone were to advise anything 'physical' I should do with my laptop? :-o
And as much as I'd like to make mine 'efficient' as possible to play 10 SE VSTi's at once - not until I get a newer, faster, bigger lappy. So basically, we're on our own to figure out what we can and can't use software wise and/or peripheral hook ups. Our beds are made, and now we must sleep in them. :hihi:

Unless lappies had some connection that PC's and Mac's don't - we just got small 'hardcoded' PC's is all. ;)

Actually, the LivePA.org forum is pretty close to what I want (a very, very good forum) but software based solutions tend to be scoffed at at times, although lately there seems to have been more acceptence of laptop based setups. I've been a KVRist for some time now and I know that there isn't a whole lot of **detailed** dicussion on this subject. Basically it's allways an equipment list roll call with no really useful information about HOW everyone operates thier systems.

Ableton's forum is geared (obviously) toward Live, but there are a lot of discussions about laptops there as well.

A year ago I would've agreed with you on your assesment of demand for this sort of thing, but things have changed exponentially. Lately, so many fans of hardware are finally realizing the versatility (and portability!) of a software based live performance rig. Next year there will be even more. I can also gauge this by how many LivePA forum guys have recently been purchasing laptops. It's a new trend...

Lets see what happens with this thread and take it from there. And yep, apapthy is always a factor too!
