Using RC 5 to compose sonata form?

Hello, all,

I’m very new to RC, having only recently learned about it when searching for composition tools. I pulled the trigger today on the full version, a bit of a leap of faith to grab that sale price before it expired.

What I’m hoping to use it for is to work on structuring classical compositions. I know the general ideas for sonata form (statement, development, recapitulation, coda), but not really how to arrange it. As in, how many bars for the statement (8?), how many for the development, etc. Whether to use something like ABA within each section, that kind of thing.

I know that RC has the suggester, and the generators, and even a structure analyzer. I’d like to be able to learn from the *why* of the suggestions it makes, which is something I understand it will do.

As a bit of background, I’m 95% self taught, other than early piano lessons which I abandoned as a kid because I wanted to learn boogie woogie, not those songs in the old Hal Leonard books. I have Hollywood Orchestrator, and Scaler 3, and EZKeys 2. They all have their uses, but I find they don’t really give reasons for what they do. I’m trying to use them to learn, with the ultimate goal being writing a full symphony.
