hi,
i know that a lot of these snares/clap combos are using a lot of time the TR 808 samples running through saturation and samplers like the SP12000, MPC etc. i also layered some claps and snares and added some comps, eq to taste and added some transient designer which makes these pretty big. but what i cannot figure out is a "snappy/whippy" sound.
one clap/snare combo i really love is this one, it just slaps hard
it is well hearable at around 0:40 mins and at 1:43 mins you hear the clap only, im pretty sure this is the layered clap, it should be an 808 clap with short decay and maybe some compression. but i wonder what is the hard hitting base sound? i tested various 808 snares and also checked the Boss DR660 but it just doesnt make it.
anyone have any ideas? maybe they also used a sampled snare from a vinyl record or/and i didnt test the Everlasting Bass snare yet.
thx

thx but i dont wanna sample these, i know sampling drums might be normal but im not sure if this is really legal.Spin Boyz wrote: Sun Jun 29, 2025 5:35 pm There are guys on Reddit sampling drums from those 3-6 records. Could be hit or miss tho.
thanks this is a standard 808 snare what i hear and sadly isnt that punchy and layered what im looking for
here in this example is also a good one. i dunno how they get this SMACK! at the beginning, i checked Rim shots, punchy snares etc. but nothing sounds like this.

Question: Have you already tried to bring the Loudness to a comparable level? Loudness has an enormous impact on how you perceive the sounds in a mix.
What I think to hear is 808 snare and clap. And they don´t sound extraordinary punchy to me.

Most of the time people just turn up the volume a lot in relation to the rest. Simple.

Might not be hearing what you are, but you can synthesise this sort of snare pretty easily. Sine pitch sweep from say 2khz to around 300. Layered noise/clap on top. Attacky compression or something like Transient Master or ST4B. Or the free Spectral plugin Pancz. Bounce it to audio and then repitch it down to get a bit of that old sample sound.Caine123 wrote: Tue Jul 08, 2025 8:40 amthx but i dont wanna sample these, i know sampling drums might be normal but im not sure if this is really legal.Spin Boyz wrote: Sun Jun 29, 2025 5:35 pm There are guys on Reddit sampling drums from those 3-6 records.
