Ok guys, gals & anything in between, I hope you're having a great day.

With the summer sales and some discount, I have the opportunity to buy Arturia Pigment 6 at $80 .... I know it's packing a lot of features ( few synth engines ) and some interesting gui but I'm also reading that the granular engine is "meh" ...

If I read their marketing BS, I wonder why I didnt sell a kidney yet to buy a copy of Pigment ... :hihi:

I'm also considering the granular engine of Minimal Audio Current which seems to be way better ...

When you already own U-He Ace & Zebra 2 , Tone2 Icarus, Kilohearts Phase-Plant, the Korg collection, the Arturia V Collection ... do you really need it ?

So my question is simply : will Pigment 6 be able to create sounds that "only" Pigment 6 can create ?

If not, then I'll skip it.

thanks all for your opinions, help and peace !
:D

Just buy it, you'll never regret, it's simply the best.

You can frequently get it for $100 but it's not on sale right now. You're welcome. Don't check the buy & sell forum, I'm sure no one is selling it there.

Ah, missed that. Umm...I've got nothing then.

I have a ton of great synths, but I find there's always a place for Pigments.

Of course not.

Is Pigments 6 nevertheless a great synth? Absolutely.

The new modal engine is really nice and the new standard filters also sound good. Just download the demo and try it out for yourself. I'm sure, it will answer your questions.

And that's the issue with those videos : the movie looks professional and engaging, the girl looks nice and attractive, it all flows nicely and the video atmosphere is perfect to conclude a sale ... BUT the sound "palette" she's using/presenting is clearly too airy for me ...

Of course I could test it, but in 20 minutes ( I've read that's the trial duration ) , all I'll be able to judge is mainly the gui and a bit of the workflow : it's marketed as a sound design beast, so I would like to try to push it's granular/wavetable and FM engine... and yes, it does look nice.

@Vince you've got most of the bases covered with the synth collection that you already have. That being said, $80 is totally worth it if you can afford it. Pigments can definitely sound airy, it's one of the reasons why I love it so much for ambient styles of music. But don't be fooled, it can also sound very aggressive and heavy, depending on what type of synthesis you're using. The synth engines and effects provide an amazing amount of power, and my patience has been rewarded numerous times.

The same thing can be said about Minimal Audio's Current 2. The kinds of sounds that you can design are incredibly diverse. Current 2 has one of the absolute best onboard effects racks that I've seen in a VST. I also really like being able to control 4 macros with a dual X/Y pad for expressive performances and automation. If you use a lot of 3rd party synth patches, you'll probably find way more available for Pigments 6. But there are some excellent presets for Current 2, including a constantly-evolving collection of expansions being released by the Minimal Audio team. And they really know what they're doing. Good luck! :tu:

Need? No.

Are synths really about need though? Also no :)

(I don't have Pigments myself -- when I demo'd it I didn't think it offered me anything over and above what I already had. But I've been known to argue in favor of other synths that people have said that exact thing about, so... whatever floats your boat.)

Reasons to buy: it ships with 2000 very good presets which you can use to unpick how the different synthesis engines are used $80 is a good buy for that alone, you can also use its sequencer/arpeggiator along with its library of presets to drive the other devices in your collection and for the past 6 years it has received a major free annual update.

Reasons not to buy: You already have too many synths ...

Plus the demo is an unlimited 20 minute session so you can just keep refreshing it for as long as you like.
