USB - Large HDD or small SSD for Sample Library?

I'm wondering this because I'm currently using an HDD, and even though it's USB 3.0, it causes slow loading of some larger plugins or simply when listening to samples (I use Logic Pro X). Do you think it makes sense to buy an SSD but with a small capacity (a few terabytes) or buy a very large HDD with some inevitable slow loading problems while saving money?
How do you do it?
I'm wondering this in anticipation of purchasing some plugins with very large sample libraries (hundreds of gigabytes).

I use HDDs as archive and backup media. If disc streaming is involved then I go definitely SDD.

You can’t use more than one USB drive?

Anyway, I’d go for as large (capacity) an SSD as you can get / afford. No point buying HDDs these days, IMO.

Switching from spinning rust (HDD) to large SIMM sticks (SSD) will have a drastic effect on performance (in a good way)

You think "a few terabytes" qualifies as "small" ??
