For an EDM track what is the target frequency range for sub-bass? How deep can the sub bass go safely for playback on cheap headphones, apple earphones, Bluetooth speakers etc? Is there a rule of thumb?

The majority of this question can be answered by yourself, if you are prepared to do some field work.MR-EDM wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 1:54 am For an EDM track what is the target frequency range for sub-bass? Most speakers come with technical specifications which state the frequency range.
In my signature there's my MusicCalc which translates frequencies to musical notes. And vice versa.
You can make spectrographs of your fav tracks to find out what their content is like.
You can play a sine sweep on some of your own (and borrowed) devices to find out. Here's such a sine sweep:
Play frequency sweeps (or just different notes) with other than sine waveforms on devices of which you determined already they lack sub bass. Well? Surprise??
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
