HOW do you watermark & identify watermarks?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

hi guys,
stumbled upon a video that you can watermark your audio files with HARMOR?
This seems pretty neat? imagine someone taking your music/samples and you got your watermark in it, is it anything worth to do/use?

1. how do you watermark without HARMOR? or any other tools?
2. how can you check if an audio file is watermarked at all?

interesting topic, hope mayb someone has some experiences! :tu:

No, it's pointless

You don't have the time, the money, or the technical ability to check every published audio file and video, then locate contact information for the person(s) who used the sample or VST output, then check validity of them being a licensee, nor the time, money or lawyers to litigate misuse - sometimes internationally.

Think it could work with AI, so I am eyeing at Sonic8. However, it's just in development. But why not use it? If I would upload something, then I have an extra card if someone steals it. Can't be that bad, I suppose

You can, of course, spend your time applying and/or evaluating
watermarks. But why?

To store meta information for an MP3 file, the MP3 tags are
perfectly sufficient. Here, you can store the author, contributing
musicians, licenses, and even images.

As BertKoor already said, watermarking is completely pointless.
It might be interesting if your song skyrockets to the top ten and
a copyright or royalty dispute ends up in court. Courts usually
rely on expert witnesses and composition sheets for this.
Watermarking might be a piece of the puzzle in this case, but
it certainly wouldn't really convince a judge. :?

@enroe,
the idea is that YT and Google will use it for regular detection at some point in cases that involve copyright infringement. Obviously, the regular user themself has no time, capacity and money to maintain the security of their creative output. As @BertKoor had adressed already
PS the KVR editor does not on my device; I cannot even see what I type in FYI

For those that make a living creating content that is sold, why not watermark?

Legit purchases create a unique mark based on order info etc.
- I purchase eBooks a lot with this epub with watermark
- So if I were to put any of those files for download somewhere they could track me down if spread of that copy I got
- nothing I would even think of, since I appreciate things I buy and want creators to benefit from that
- I have a few with Adobe DRM that you activate and download from Adobe account, but more cumbersome and avoid those.
- Violet is something for film on several devices, not sure how it works

Do everything in meta data of a mp3, that is easily removed, so if a file is for download somewhere you can not track origin with that technology.

But having regular things done to spectrum of an audio file, could work in court, if every legit purchase is unique even down to original order. A special tools would then analyse audio and present origin of purchase, or useless.

I'm not against copy protection until you start getting cumbersome handling for legic owners of a license.
- then you start loosing customers just for that reason

I trialed Reaper 7 and just had it left to check some things many months later and got a splash screen like this, a gentle type of moral nag screen
- Reaper written in dripping blood on an compact cassette tape
