Hi,

I have a question / problem with the transposing of phrases using vertical dragging.

I defined a phrase in the phrase editor as chord relative (see first attached image). The phrase comprises the third, fifth and seventh of the chord.

When I drag this phrase onto a composition Imaj7 chord in C I get E-G-B as expected.

Now I would like to get the first inversion of this phrase by vertical dragging to get G-B-E.
So I select the "phrase" transpose setting, select the phrase and drag it up vertically.

Here I do not understand the behavior:

- the first vertical up drag step leads to 4-6-8 (F-A-C) which has no relation to the phrase (I though I would only get the phrase notes in different inversions if I drag in phrase mode)

- the second vertical drag step up leads to 5-7-9 (G-B-D) - see attached screen shot

So why is there suddenly the 9 (D)? The phrase dragging should only lead to defined phrase notes, so instead of a D there should be an E.

Where is my error? How can I use vertical phrase dragging to get REAL inversions?

Thanks for your help

Jens

Hi Jens,

if you see roman numerals in the Phrase Editor, that means those are scale notes. You can fix that by selecting all notes, and choosing "Chord Relative" from the menu in the top row. (The menu has two functions: it can convert selected notes, and it indicates the type of the next note to be created).

Otherwise you did everything perfectly.

Thanks,
Attila

Great thank you very much!

Now I have a problem with a major 9 voicing that I would like to move through different inversions:

In the phrase editor I defined a simple rootless major 9 voicing E3-G3-B3-D4 (see attached image)
9th_chord_phrase.jpg
Now I would like get different inversions of this voicing by vertical dragging.

When I drag the phrase into the composer and perform a 1 step vertical dragging in "Notes" transpose mode, I get (see attached image):
G3-B3-D4-E5
so the 3rd of the chord jumps an octave

However I would like to get:
G3-B3-D4-E4

What can I do to get the expected behavior through vertical phrase dragging?

Thanks

Jens
