Unless I’m not understanding, it already supports VST2 and VST3.

Unify has always supported both VST2 and VST3.

You are talking about two different things.
Yes, Unify has had support for VST2, VST3, and AU since day 1.
The issue is with the "unified" libraries, that is, Unify patches for a third-party factory library or a Unify version of patches for an existing PlugInGuru patch library for [supersynthX].
In this case, the decision was made early on to use VST2 as the common denominator and best choice for compatibility across platforms. This is causing a bit of a headache now, with VST2 being deprecated. Also for users who decide not to install the VST2 version of a particular plugin, of course.
The issue is discussed by John and Shane in this support response:

I also have found this exciting news.
For me, its the easiest decision to upgrade.

I got all excited by Unify when I found it thinking it could be a software replacement for Kore, but it's missing the main feature that eludes me for live performance, a patch change ability to quickly switch from one complete chain of instrument and X to the next like Kore could do. So far it looks like Unify 2 also cannot instantly change from one to the next.
You can do this to a degree in DAWs like Live at least in the sense that you can set up chains of tracks with instruments that you disable and enable etc. but it's not a simple elegant solution like Kore was. I still miss using it in Live with program change messages to simply switch entire setups per song or even parts of a song.

Have you checked out Gig Performer? It is made for this, and it is rock solid and features instant chain changes if set up as intended.

+1 on Gig Performer, totally made for doing what you need.
Also supreme at handling all sorts of midi controllers including
limiting ranges, etc..
That said, it should be possible within Unify, you may have to set it up, but it's my understanding it's possible. But I use Gig Performer so I don't even have to think about trying in Unify.
Enjoyed Unify 1 so I think this upgrade is worth it.
I just thought of it, why don't you contact "Skippy", he would surely be able to point you in the right direction.

The fact, that Unify doesn't forward mousewheel to the plugins is the dealbreaker for me. They didn't fix it in V1. Not sure, if they even are aware about it and have fixed it in V2.
As others mentioned Gig Performer or MainStage(?) should have also some solutions for that, because it's a typical live performing use-case.
A workaround in Live could be to have multiple chains selected by the chain parameter. You can map this then to a macro controller and map this to a MIDI CC and choose the according chain via that. Or you find some M4L device, which transforms program change into MIDI CC or build it yourself.machinesworking wrote: Tue Oct 14, 2025 6:59 am You can do this to a degree in DAWs like Live at least in the sense that you can set up chains of tracks with instruments that you disable and enable etc. but it's not a simple elegant solution like Kore was. As others have said Gig Performer is what you seekmachinesworking wrote: Tue Oct 14, 2025 6:59 am I got all excited by Unify when I found it thinking it could be a software replacement for Kore, but it's missing the main feature that eludes me for live performance, a patch change ability to quickly switch from one complete chain of instrument and X to the next like Kore could do.
You can create complex setups with multiple instrument plugins, multiple effects plugins, and MIDI splits and controls on a bunch of different controllers and instantly switch from one to another. The setup changes also includes audio one and outs from your interface so you can route (if you choose) any incoming audio and MIDI from anything to any plugins you want, and then route MIDI and Audio from anything inside of Gig Performer to any output you want and change it on the fly
This enables different mixes to in-ears or wedges
I use it live multiple times a week. I use a MIDI foot pedal to switch between setups, it's so easy and powerful to do I have a few changes that happen in the middle of a song as we go from verse to bridge to chorus
You can basically turn any incoming MIDI (Note, CC, whatever) as your trigger
In a band I play in sometimes that is more of a classic rock Jam Band type group, without a defined setlist, I use a controller that has 12 pads above the keyboard. Each one of those triggers a different setup

Thanks everyone for the suggestion but again, it's about a VSTi plugin being able to change patches with MIDI commands. From what I can tell Gig Performer sets up audio and MIDI streams to a DAW, but it's not running inside the DAW, I'll take a look, but it as of my knowledge now does not come across like a solution geared towards live performance in DAWs like Live, DP, Bitwig etc. it seems more like a solution to get your live performance recorded in a DAW.

you are correct with that.machinesworking wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 4:37 pm From what I can tell Gig Performer sets up audio and MIDI streams to a DAW, but it's not running inside the DAW, I'll take a look, but it as of my knowledge now does not come across like a solution geared towards live performance in DAWs like Live, DP, Bitwig etc. it seems more like a solution to get your live performance recorded in a DAW.

This is why years ago when I bought Unify I was hoping it could change patches since it runs as a VSTi etc. Anyway once again my desires are niche apparently because I seem to be the only one who wants this...

No Gig Performer doesn't run in the DAW. It IS the DAW - or the host to be more specific, but it offers many opportunities and maybe could replace what you do in AL. But if you don't wanna drop Ableton Live, you can have running it with GP via Ableton Link.machinesworking wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 4:37 pm Thanks everyone for the suggestion but again, it's about a VSTi plugin being able to change patches with MIDI commands.
