Free modular music making software

Besides VCV Rack, what other free modular music making software is available? I’m assuming that Synthcraft is an option. Any other ideas?

Look into Cardinal if you haven't already. It's a noncommercial earlier branch of what became VCV Rack, with a 'fixed' (occasionally updated) rather large set of modules and is free in both standalone and plugin versions.

Cherry Audio Voltage Neucleus is the free entry level modular synth. Monophonic only but you can build up to poly. With paid for expansions.

MUX being used as VSTi can load/connect it's own modules OR bring in foreign VST-VSTi to interconnect to as well...

Also VSTForx inside saviHost (or other host) is modular as well...

Seems like if you go BACK in time there was a butt-load... Sync Modular was made free, will install it's own MIDI port if you wish plus plays as VSTi-

Finally, MaCaW DAW is modular hookup & the program itself has some of the most intense plugins ever such as universal-



As you can see here any hookups are modular-



MaCaW has as well a 'subset' modular system for making your own synths-FX right in MaCaW... This has been in the program for over 20 years back when it was DeltaSP then Oscillastation...

MaCaW is free & has become somewhat experimental rather than a more stable payware project it used to be, so version picking is critical to get the best one...

3.01.21 is best but you can't minimize the application, but you can maximize down & move it or use whatever titlebar rollup utility or other...

Extract that into a folder THEN Grab the DLLs & extract those into same folder BARE-

In this manner it won't piss & moan about missing banks & you will be able to play the included song files to study & learn...

If you did it right it should look just like this except you won't have the MacWaves.exe-



Here's the SynthCard Designer in Example image... This was in DeltaSP 1.62 LFE which came out late 2004 or early 2005... Like having synthedit inside your DAW...
