Win 11 or hackintosh Sequoia

Hi i am building a new system a Threadripper Amd. I could dual boot but i have heard some really bad stuff about Win 11 no local accounts anymore. You must sign in to Microsoft to use 11. Eh whose computer is it there,s. I cannot upgrade my old computer it is stuck on win 10 still really decent 37000x amd. But i have to take it offline but it won,t upgrade unless i start from scratch.

So i have 2 options Sequoia or Linux 99% of my music software would work on Mac OSx. Dual boot with Linux for everyday stuff and Mac OSX for more music stuff but also offline. With Vst3 recently being open sourced how long before there is a Linux version. So catch 22 i have to go all in either way. My Daw works in all of them Reaper?. I am done with Microsoft in general

I think Microsoft is run by University trained morons. Who think the general public is here to provide them with a lavish lifestyle. While they provide the least possible for max profits. I thought the idea of a corporation was to provide a public service for a fair return. Not fleece the public for a few investors with 3rd rate products that people are stuck with because of work.

I was a bit shouting i have been on windows since 95. I think they have forgotten what they are supposed to be in the big scheme. If they think they can lock everything behind pay walls. It goes against the fundamental right of anyone to share in information.

Of course, and I could raise you hundred fold reasons, I just don't think its helpful to be honest - goes no where - similar to discussing the corruption in politics - the reasons most would agree - it's a matter of agency and volition - what can we seriously do about it, ya know

Can you still make a hackintosh since apple has moved over to it's own chips? I figured that put the Kibosh on it. Emulating the chips would suck, it even sucked back when I made an AMD hackintosh and you had to run a utility to lie to the OS about the chip model everytime you installed anything.

Anyway, I was sure apple never did anything about them since they knew proprietary chips were on the way. In any event I haven't paid the hackitosh community and mind is some years. Maybe they can use other arm chips or something.

MacOS26 ( tahoe ) still supports intel based macs - but it's the LAST release for Intel, next year MacOS27 will be apple silicon only

26 will be in support 'til late 2028 ( when MacOS29 comes out - apple supports current OS release and previous two releases ) - so personally I think putting effort into building a hackintosh now would be pretty crazy ( unless you only expect your new PC to be usable for 3 years )

Now that i think about it, it's the chips themselves that allow for quite computing, this is half the benefit of a mac. I'll probably just grab one. I can't stand for a second the fan noise on my other pc any longer - it's a 4k laptop - goes unused.

Ahh ok, thanks. Yup I'd say go linux or buy a mac studio or win 11 something.
Sooner or later I'll pony up for a mac studio, but I am loath to spend the money,
which has nothing to do with mac vs pc.

Probably going to pick up an air series 2020 M1 for like $600 - 2tb and 16gb ram. That's more than enough for my needs.

For Windows 11, provided you use the Pro version, you can still enable local accounts with a few extra steps (choosing a local Domain lets you skip the online account). But, given Microsoft’s present direction, you’re kinda swimming against the tide if you’re inclined towards silly notions like it being your personal computer, rather than theirs, to control.

If your audio host can run on Linux, and you’re even slightly computer literate (you know what hardware is in your machine and you’re willing to learn what file permissions are), I would definitely venture down the Linux path instead. The only real barrier is whether enough of your audio plugins (iLok etc) can run ok. Thanks to companies, like Steam, Linux is genuinely viable for an increasing number of regular mainstream users at this point.

For building a Hackintosh you’d have to choose your components (particularly the motherboard) based around that purpose, otherwise you’re asking for a world of hurt. You’re also never going to go past Mac OS 26 (Tahoe) since it’s the last version which will run on X86 / 64. It’s Apple Silicon only from Mac OS 27, so you’ll find increasing numbers of software dropping support in the coming few years.

If going for Apple hardware, along with Amazon, retailers like Costco and Best Buy offer frequent discounts over the regular Apple prices. But they’ll usually only go above 10-15% discounts when Apple’s clearing previous generation stock. Buy one with as much ram and performance cores as you can afford. Don’t worry too much about storage. Anything with an M4 Pro chip, or higher, should come with Thunderbolt 5 support. This means external storage almost as fast as internal.
