Valhalla Delay has been on my wish list for quite a while. Now that FutureVerb is here, I ask the community which one of [only] these two would you recommend purely for versatility? I already own NI Raum and ReplikaXT

What you have is already pretty good. I don't think you need anything else for general use. The only reason would be specific use cases, simply GAS or perhaps a different flavor of the same.
I can tell you that my plugin folders are filled to the brim. If you can afford more stuff, then get it, but it's not necessary, imo.
Sorry, to answer your question: maybe start with the delay and later the other if you use it a lot. FurtureVerb is a bit strange, because it's marketed as a clean reverb, but has a built in delay unit. To me this makes it look more like a creative effect. ymmv
For another reverb flavor you could also look at Acon Verberate 2. It's sometimes sold at a very low price.

ValhallaDelay is my single favorite delay plugin outside of whacky, super complex, delay effects. The various modes sound incredible. I love it.
FutureVerb is too new to know if it'll become a go-to in the same way. So between the two, I'd say ValhallaDelay.

The first of all you need to answer yourself, why do you need a new delay plugin. Is it because Valhalla does what ReplikaXT does not? Second question is: is NI Raum limiting you, that you need another reverb or is it just a GAS? This year I sold more than I bought, and now my workflow is much better and faster. I own Valhalla Delay and classic: Valhalla VintageVerb. And these two + Supermassive covers all my delay/reverb needs. On the other hand, I did not tested FutureVerb. For me it is just a GAS right now because in my opinion VVV is so versatile. In past there was Raum in my PC too and it is really good reverb plugin if not the best according to sound and number of knobs I just don't like NI plugins, therefore VVV won the battle for allrounder reverb. Download both of them and test them against similar plugins to make a decision. Because whatever anyone writes here is just their own opinion, their own workflow, their own music, and the same plugin they praise will be insufficient for your music/production.

You already have a good reverb and a good delay.
Both ValhallaDSP options would expand your palette of sounds greatly.
I am a sucker for both, delay and reverb.
So I don't have a clear recommendation for you.
I see Future for what is on the name: reverb.
I didn't even care to explore the delay side with the reverb.
Val Delay is awesome! It is my main Delay for quite some time now.
This is for non sophisticated stuff, for that I have Infiltrator.
BBD, Tape, LoFi, 80ies chorused digital delay, it is all in there with a cool interface.
FutureVerb sounds great and quite different to Raum.
So I don't see much overlap there.
So my answer has to be: Get both.

Replika XT cover a lot of delay ground: digital, tape, feedback loop, etc.
Unless you really want some especific valhalla delay mode, I would go with FutureVerb, or Room, or VVV.

I like NI Raum a lot, but compared to FutureVerb it's almost a one-trick pony. It's a great-sounding trick though.
I had ReplikaXT for a while and resold my license.
ValhallaDelay has been my absolute favorite delay plugin since its release. I like a few others that have a different feature set / sound character, but nothing has budged it from the top spot.
FutureVerb is new and I'm just getting to know it, but I am extremely impressed, and it's on track to become my favorite reverb plugin. It won't ever be my only reverb plugin, but I may find myself no longer needing Raum, and culling my plugin folder a little bit.
Both ValhallaDelay and FutureVerb can do both delays and reverbs, but neither is truly a replacement for the other in terms of functionality. ValhallaDelay as a reverb is limited to just adding diffusion to delays (...which can sound great). FutureVerb as a delay is limited in the control you have over L/R delay times. The model choices are also different between the two.
I am leaning toward saying go for FutureVerb. To me, FutureVerb offers a lot more than NI Raum, and is extremely versatile as well as great-sounding. ValhallaDelay is different than ReplikaXT (and I prefer ValhallaDelay) but not necessarily "more" -- Replika has more control over multitap stuff if you're into that. That said, it's very difficult not to just say "get both."

If it's purely for delay, then Vdelay wins out for versatility quite easily imo. Having said that Futureverb does delay quite differently to VDelay and are very different flavours. I'll be using both, for sure. Not sure you can compare one to the other though. I also have both Replika and Vdelay - they have some crossover but also do different things and very different character. Though both can do diffusion on delay, I don't think either approach the lushness of the reverby delay like Futureverb. Vdelay diffusion is closer to Futureverb but not as lush/quality, whereas Replika diffusion is a bit basic tbh. There is a comparison to be had between Vdelay and Futureverb, but they're different enough that I wouldn't be able to say I just want one over the other. Not sure I'd buy Futureverb as purely a delay, it's strength is reverb, but the added X-factor is the delay/reverb capabilty and it stands on its own imo.
I'm also with you on keeping control of plugin GAS. I don't tend to buy many plug-ins nowadays, as compared to I used to have folders stuffed full of every kind of crap that came my way. But I found it difficult to pass over Futureverb. For me it'll be big dubby reverb echoes - Vdelay can do it, but not in the same quality ballpark. I passed over the other Valhalla reverbs, as Vintageverb covers most of it well enough, I passed over most other delays as Replika and Vdelay cover most of it well enough. Futureverb kinda stands on its own to me, so I had to buy it. VDelay definitely can't do those reversed reverby echoes that Futureverb does. In terms of purely delay, VDelay does an awful lot more than Futureverb. But even VDelay has its limitations (one of my wishlists would be resonant filters in the feedback loop, which was why I got Replika).
But ultimately if you have to pick one over the other, and purely on versatility in your question...VDelay wins. (But I don't have to pick one over the other
).

Valhalla Delay has replaced Replika XT for me... but it's quite a minor upgrade and for most purposes I could still be happily using ReplikaXT. They are both really good and cover similar territory.
I picked up FutureVerb yesterday so still learning it. Never used Raum that much, will be interesting to see if it starts supplanting Pro-R 2 for transparent stuff.

FutureDelay was released in the past, it's RetroDelay that will be released in the future.

I've realized people here are plugin collectors as I've seen many many times "insta buy" - "bought without demoing" and stuff like that. I posted in the Valhalla Future Verb post I bought Valhalla Delay when it was out and it has the best algos (for me) and you can make it sound as reverb too with the diffusion knob. All the algos sound very different and you can make it shimmer too so why would I need another plugin if this one is perfect for my needs? So I would say go for Valhalla Delay, but yeah demo both and get the one that gives you the best workflow:)

I would buy FutureVerb, ReplikaXT is amazing and I use it all the time. An extremely underrated delay. For reference I own ValhallaDelay, Recirculate and probably some other delays as well that I don't really use.pummel wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 3:59 pm Valhalla Delay has been on my wish list for quite a while. Is not everytime about needs, but about flavour, I have more than 20 reverb, and 20 delayyzcoruhT wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 5:07 pm The first of all you need to answer yourself, why do you need a new delay plugin.
I just pick up Ripple, Lair and Recirculate.
I won't buy FutureVerb, it brings me nothing new.
