Simulating p.i.g. grunts / snorts ("oinks")

How to make that sound...

I have been trying to synthesize cartoonish p.i.g. snorts (the kind used in peppa p.i.g. for example). For now, they sound more like farts than snorts. What sort of synth chain / structure / parameters would one use to have such a generator?

Currently, I had chatGPT help code a few iterations, here is the latest (with links to the previous ones):
https://pigoink.pages.dev/

iteration 1 is meh, iteration 2 is somewhat closer but too close to a fart, and the last (main page) sounds too mechanical somehow and without enough influence of the vowel change.

To be clear, I am trying to synthesize the imitation a human does of a p.i.g. snort, not an actual p.i.g. snort, so something one does by breathing in, havin the uvula vibrate against the back of the throat, and forming the vowel Oh to start and moving to either Ah, Eh or Ih.

Any help (even prompting help if I am inacurately describing the phenomenon I am trying to imitate) appreciated :) That said, I do like to code and am interested in sound synthesis (a beginner in the subtractive or modular kinds, no knowledge of sound effects per se) so advice can go that route as well... Thanks!

The formant version is starting to get close to a pig snort.

Perhaps lower the frequency just a touch, and modulate the formant filter.

I'm also getting some airy breath noises in the nasal passage of the pigs.

Perhaps overlay some noise oscillators on there?

The new attempt (current iteration) is uploaded at https://pigoink.pages.dev/

Although I agree we are closer, someone asked what this sounds like would probably still say a fart rather than a snort... Any idea where I can go from there? Thanks, your help is appreciated!

Just a thought, without listening (I will) and from just reading the thread, look to inspiration from didgeridoo type sounds/effects.

sorry to state the obvious but why not sample it?

Certainly sampling would be the easy path. I'm assuming it's some sort of personal challenge.

Playing with the sliders and iterations, I reiterate my recommendation to look further into didge effects. The resonance needs more of a ululation and less of a braaap ... if that makes sense.

Here is the latest iteration. The didjeridoo tip did a very positive push in the right direction, thanks!

This actually sounds fairly close to real pig oinks, I am wondering if we can make them a bit more cartoonish at this point?

The reason why I am not doing samples is that I want to be able to tune the parameters in order to get a greater variety of oinks (rather than just notes, but also a larger variety than what I believe is achievable with multiple types of samples). There is also a technical reason (space) for avoiding sampling.

Glad the suggestion was helpful. The tone seems a bit off still and I think a human faking a pig snort it will not be rising but falling in pitch. See if you can find a way make it sound a little bit more like a snore (more guttural) and less like a guiro.
