Big news: LANDR has acquired Reason Studios
Curious to see what they are doing with Reason DAW and the modular Rack Plugin. They already said in the press releases that they will implement AI features

Just when things had started to look up...I haven't had anything to do with LANDR before, but anything with 'AI' gives me the shivers!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I think this is will probably very bad for the DAW. Not quite so bad to OK for the Rack, which features heavily in the release and would make sense for LANDR to restore as a product in its own right.
If they try to AIse (or more likely half-AIse) the DAW, they'll likely piss everyone off in one way or another. The rack? Well as long as the REs don't get bounced out, it'll have a chance of surviving.

Prime days for Reason were back when CRTs were still popular. That 4:3 resolution is when the rack dimensions made sense. They never really resolved that satisfactorily, after wide screen resolutions took over, then took too long to allow VSTs. Reason didn't really seem to be a popular choice in the past decade.. being on the outskirts of town, similar to Sonar..

It's too bad the only fun looking DAW had to get acquired. They'll likely ruin either the DAW (make it look like all others) or the pricing model (force subscription). So I guess I'll be forced to use Reaper or some other depressing DAW with grim, minimal graphics.
Not everyone needs maximum efficiency.

There will be an ignorant future producer generation that pays $19.95 a month for a DAW rather than owning it.

Wow. I own the previous version but I forget how it's authorized... does it need to be online?

You can choose to set it so it reauthorize every month or lock the Authorization for 1 year so you can use it offline for 1 year before you need to reauthorize for another year.Danno wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:08 pm Wow. I'm the only one that doesn't think it means the end of the world it seems. Landr for me anyway is more well know for stem extraction. It's always possible this turns out to be a good thing. Reason already has subscription and regular ownership, so that shouldn't change since that's how Landr does it too. Much more frightening when a company that has no interest in music buys a DAW IMO.

Like Gibson? I assume they didn't care about musicmachinesworking wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:26 pm Much more frightening when a company that has no interest in music buys a DAW IMO.
