Kontakt goes nuts

NI Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt are the worse piece of music software I've experienced in last 25 years. Now in my particular case, it got even worse.

I am running ableton12/Win10/Komplete-Kontrol14-Pro.(KK v2.9 and Kontakt7)

I place KK on the track then select KONTAK7, select instrument, then patch.
Save the project and then reopen, and the track has Kontakt7 replaced with Kontakt8 Player. Then I have a window popped up with a call to action (Buy/upgrade etc...)
If I hit ESC, remove Kontakt8 Player and reload Kontakt7, then close and reopen the project the same scenario repeats. In other words I cannot use anything from NI at the moment.

I uninstalled Kontakt8 Player but this did not help.
I cannot upgrade KK, because then none of my older projects will open.

I created a ticket with NI, but AFAIK it is going to take weeks before they respond, and I simply cannot work anymore.

Anybody has any idea how to fix this ?

There’s a setting that’s something like ‘always load the latest kontakt’. Maybe that’s it?

Yeah. Maschine has the same setting. I think it's for all the NI plugins. It's a terrible setting but easy to fix anyway.
