I am obsessed with saturators and color compressors...or whatever i can put anywhere between other fx in my fx chain and will give me some sweet, musical result.
Right now my taste is to use more old school saturators like V76U73 in combination with color compressors like u17 or console emu's like 9000j.
If fx give me musical result and SATISFACTION - i use it,shaping my sound with it.
I am curious what people consider as most musical fx in their plugin arsenal in 2026 and use daily?
Thanks for your time :)

I love Spectre for saturation. The sat types are nice and you can just put them directly on the frequencies you need without bumping adjacent frequencies you don't want to emphasize.

Not very into emulations, but IMO the Vertigo VSS-2 is a very musical tool, especially on busses.

Moving into more esoteric tools, IMO Shaperbox is very musical. Pumping verbs, pans, widths, etc. are great for making hats come alive (electronic music obviously).

Minimal Audio Rift can be very musical in a brutal way.

I use a lot of Neold stuff. Wunderlich, OldTimer and RZ062 especially.

Korneff SITRAL is a "gotta use it all the time" new one.

The Acustica Squid3 and IK Pianoverse are also inspiring a lot of music making.

the most musical fx plugin i have is probably a custom jsfx plugin where i press a predetermined key and it treats it as though i had pressed the key prior to that.

so if I set it to A1. then i play G3 - A1 - F3 - A1 - G3 - A1 - G3 - A1, it instead outputs as G3 - G3 - F3 - F3 - G3 - G3 - G3 - G3

it is so essential to my finger-drumming rig that, without it, my capabilities plummet. it's also great for fast bass lines, cymbal/timpani/mallet rolls, ostinati, etc.

That seems interesting.
please provide the name of the FX and a link to it.

since I pay a lot attention to bass (Fender P-bass),I can't be without Waves RBass for final tweak to make it cut through in a pleasant way.
Waves Kramer plugins are unique Tape, HLS channel and also PIE Compressor, RComp and RenEq still great. Oxford Sonnox Limiter is my fav other limiters tend to add something to or affect the mix I do not always like. Ignite Amp Pultec can be a good choice and even has LC and HC filters.
To keep it musical, less is more often (little or no reverb or compression). Have you ever tried to use the saturation of Waves API-560! (red out knob! and "analog")
