Hello KVR,
I’m a college-level music theory teacher, and for years I’ve used real-time MIDI visualization tools to demonstrate notation and harmony concepts in class. Frustrated with the limitations of existing software, I decided to build my own.
After years of development and classroom testing, this became MidiStickers Pro, a desktop MIDI visualization tool designed specifically for music theory teaching and learning, with a strong focus on harmony. In addition to notation display and chord symbols, it includes Roman numerals (scale degrees), figured bass, harmonic function symbols, and other visual tools for theory and harmony.
It’s designed to be used with a MIDI controller, but it can also load MIDI files or receive MIDI from any software that generates MIDI output.
The software is fully modular: every tool can be rearranged and used as floating, always-on-top widgets alongside other applications, such as music notation software or DAWs.
It also includes training tools for practicing chords and voicings in all 12 keys with automatically generated accompaniment, as well as some experimental visualizations such as real-time “negative harmony.”
MidiStickers Pro is aimed primarily at teachers, students, and musicians interested in harmony and theory. It’s available as a one-time purchase (no subscription), and I plan to continue developing it over the coming year and beyond.
