Hi guys, thanks in advance for tour help.

I have recently started running Bitwig on my computer (Ubuntu 24.something), and I use Carla pretty frequently to load in LV2 plugins, as Bitwig doesn't support thème directly. All was well a few dans ago but then I started getting an issue. The Carla VST2.4 plugins still appear in Bitwig and I can drag them into any track. The regular box shows up, but when I click the icon to open up the GUI, nothing happens. The little icon turns orange, as it does when it actually opens a plugin GUI, but no other window appears. It doesn't visibly throw an error or anything. What's also strange is that Carla does seem to be working. I previously saved one instance of Carla with frequently used plugins loaded in as a Bitwig preset. If I load that into a new track, I can tell that those plugins are running, I just still can't open up to Carla GUI to change anything.

I've tried deleting plugin cache, switching between Wayland ans X11 sessions, straight messing à round with all sorts of buttons... I'm at a loss now. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I just solved my own problem. I realised the issue started when I switched Ubuntu to power saving mode when I forgot my charger at home a few days ago. I forgot I had done that or didn't think it would be preserved at the next startup. Anyway, yesterday and today, I was really frustrated because this plugin thing didn't work AND my computer was just generally really sluggish. I checked disk space, RAM and CPU usage, I emptied my trash, etc., nothing. Then I realised that Carla did open up if it was in a new track in a new project, but then not if it was in a project I was already working on. It seemed like if the computer just had a lot on its plate, Carla couldn't open (or it just spent so long opening that results never showed - and I dd try leaving it while I cooked and ate supper).

Moral of the story: Carla's GUI (and potentially the GUIs of other plugins, but none of my other plugins had this issue, despite being sluggish) will load slowly or even fail to load if your computer processing capacity (or allowance) is already pretty high.

I include the details so maybe other people in vaguely similar situations can get some insight.
