Spectrus 1.3.0 is out. A frequency-selective Ducker on every slot and the master bus, a scalable UI, and a redesigned Saturator. Free update for everyone - Free, Demo, and Pro users.

Download:

What's new in 1.3.0:

Ducker (Pro, new) - A frequency-selective ducker with a parallel broadband path on every slot's Out cluster and on the Master strip. Two engines: Level is a classic level-tracking sidechain; Transient fires a one-shot duck-and-recover on each onset. A per-Ducker Trigger Source picker keys each slot off its routed input, its own wet output, the main input, or any earlier slot; the master keys off the main input, the pre-mixer wet bus, or any single slot.

UI Scale - A new submenu in the logo right-click menu scales the whole editor at six tiers - 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 / 175 / 200%. It sits on top of the existing corner-drag resize: pick a tier, then fine-tune by dragging. Per-user rather than per-project, and clamped to your display so the resize handle always stays reachable.

Expandable Master & Draggable Divider - Click *Out* in the signal-flow diagram to throw the Master panel full-width, the same way slots 1-4 expand. The hairline in the gap between slot 4 and Master is now draggable to resize - double-click to snap back to the symmetric default. Handy as the Master strip fills up (Ducker just landed there), or when you want to audition all four slots side-by-side at different proportions.

Saturator mode redesign - The Shape knob now does something meaningful in every mode. Soft Clip sweeps the knee from gentle tanh rounding to hard clipping; Cubic is an odd-harmonic polynomial (2x oversampled) with Shape adding higher odd harmonics; ArcTangent runs a tilt filter ahead of the nonlinearity so Shape sweeps warm to bright; Asymmetric morphs from symmetric odd harmonics to maximum even-harmonic bias. Transfer-curve and harmonic-bar displays were updated to match.

Free - 7 effects (Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, Echo, Plate Reverb, Saturator), no restrictions, forever.

Pro - All 23 effects

Demo mode still gives full access to all 23 effects with the periodic fade, so you can audition the full effect set before buying.

Tip: building a multi-effect chain across the 4 slots

Load a preset -- it drops into Slot 1. Click the lock icon (the slot border turns orange), then load another preset and it fills Slot 2. Repeat to stack up to 4 effects.
Random Mix (the shuffle / crossed-arrows button) randomizes every unlocked slot at once -- so lock the parts you like and keep shuffling the rest.
Drag the dashed strip under the effect animation to reorder slots, or right-click it to copy/paste an effect into another slot.

Thank you satYatunes.

Is there going to be some way to demo the pro effects?

Post

Hey Pekbro, yes ultimately at release there will be 2 modes available when you download, the Free mode, and a Demo mode. In Free mode you have the 7 effects with no limitations. In Demo mode all Pro effects are available to demo. The only limitation is the audio will periodically fade out and recover about every minute, similar to how Valhalla DSP demos their plugins.

Ok thx, looking forward to it.

Thank you satYatunes.
Tried it. Even made a video. Hope it creates some buzz.

My thoughts: As a UI designer the first thing that I look is the UI/UX. The current UI is usable but gives a prototype/utilitarian vibe. It could have been better.

Tried it before the demo mode release so tried only the free effects. IMHO all are top notch. Loved the Random Mix button, surprisingly the results were good. Thanks for shipping with huge number of presets. Good luck.

Wow satYatunes, very cool, thank you.

Neat! I like it. :tu:

I would say that $50 is not cheap for many these days, consider an up-gradable mid tier if your CP can facilitate it. This could allow you to easily add additional effects or content later as well via upgrades.

Hey Pekbro, that's great, glad you like it. Let me think on a mid-tier version. Thank you for the feedback.

Personally, I don't mind the tile look, but I think they should fill the available space better, or in the least have some alignment options, in particular below the vu meter.

I can confirm this performs well on Core i5...
