What to do with all my song ideas

I have dozens (or more) of song ideas that I don't know what to do with. I'm not necessarily trying to make money off of them. I just know they're good (I used to be a successful musician but idk if I want to do that anymore) and I want to get them out there. I'm happy to give them away for free. These are melody and chords combos that I've written out as MIDIs. Does anybody know of a good way or place to post these for people to use?

Don't share them in a guitar forum.
Generally speaking there are three types of musicians writers and there are performers and a combination of both.
If they prefer to perform they like performing songs they have already heard before. You are not going to break down any walls in them.
If they prefer to solo over backing tracks well there are plenty of complete backing tracks out there. If they like to solo over chord progressions there is Band In A Box.
In short nobody wants to finish your unfinished work. They have plenty to rummage through already.
Sorry it's a harsh reality.
Also you may be interested in poem/songwriter forums as they are filled with bad poets/songwriters looking for musicians to make songs out of their work.

Why not produce them yourself and post them somewhere? Or if that's too much work, record a rough demo and use an AI music service to flesh them out. I'm in the process of going though all my old songs from the 80s and 90s and recording them, and it's been really fun.

What you have in your head making these midi's and what more
- finalize them as far as you can.
- arrange and find the right instruments/sounds for each part
After many listen through you may discover that a break is needed to keep the listener.
- if you get bored, than do something about it
If you are into vocals as well
- make lyrics or collaborate with somebody doing that part
- there is one level of confirmation if somebody bother to make lyrics to the music
If you come that far
- send to some record company being like a rough demo
- they may have some artist in mind that each song might fit
- you need something that make the song justice will help a lot
- some midi files is worth nothing
But don't be discouraged, a few dozen ideas may turn into a single song that might go all the way.
- and that is optimistic
- heard interviews with very successful songwriters, and hundreds of ideas are wasted
The journey from embryo to full song is the fun part, really.....then you might find the next level "fun" and do proper mixing as well, not just a rough demo.....
Listen to some megahits with rather simple melodies, really
I doubt producer were sent just some midi files...

I agree- if they are worth the salt and worth bringing to life than do the work, if not they may not really be worth the attention.zerocrossing wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2026 11:25 pm Why not produce them yourself and post them somewhere? I"m doing the same as well. Lots of songs I haven't recorded from the last two decades - and only choosing the best with potential. Lots of fun with all the VST toys these days. This journey IS the fun part.
