'One big knob' controller

I've seen this question get asked before, but wanted to check the current state of affairs.
There are many expansive and extensive MIDI controllers, but I am a simple man - I just want a controller with one nice feeling and looking knob, primarily to control filter cutoff.

I've seen the NOB Control and it looks ideal, EXCEPT that it works essentially like a mouse, i.e. you have to have the mouse hovering over the control you want to adjust. I want something you can map to a chosen CC and adjust freely no matter what the mouse is doing.

I have searched far and wide but all the single-knob hardware I've seen is not for MIDI at all but for controlling volume output only. Surely there must be something?

Thanks, this looks close to what I'm interested in, but would be concerned that for the given price, the heft and feel of the knob wouldn't be premium. Might be worth a punt though.

This has just popped up on Kickstarter and is in appearance closer to what I'm after, but bafflingly seems to be pitching itself as a fidget-spinner-esque busywork toy over an actual input device. Doesn't even say if it can be used for MIDI!

I think you are looking for an arduino pro micro, a couple of nice potentiometers, knobs of your choice, a bit of wire, a usb c cable, and 30mins of reading and watching YouTube.



It's very, very simple. I honestly think finding the right cigarbox/almonds tin/pedal enclosure is the most work.

When in doubt, check the seller and item reviews. I have actually only read good things about 'midi-controller-modz' in the VI Control forum.

Should be easy to change to a different pot or knob. Wouldn't even be too difficult to re-house, although you might as well take vstdls's suggestion at that point.
