Unusual usage of iLok by "Sample Logic"?

For "Sample Logic" "Animation Station 2" the user is able to "lock" the activation to an iLok dongle - what I did. But instead of the usual account login and pointing the authorisation to a device, it just worked after a second.
There is no license or auth listed in the iLok manager and I asked support. They answered quickly with: "The license won't show in the iLok License Manager itself, although it will be on your dongle."
How can they write to the dongle without my credentials? Has anybody experience with this method? Or is support just saying, we use the iLok ID or alike to identify the iLok?
I never had anything like that and I have a lot of iLok protected software andplug ins.
Any thoughts about this?
Of course, I asked support, but don't expect a full explanation. Furthermore I want to make this strange activation method public.

Weird. Have you tried using it without the dongle? You might ask iLok and see if they reply.

How do you explain that - if you have an explanation?

Yes - the plug in is in a "waiting" state and as soon as it sees the iLok again it works.
Waiting for a response from "Sample Logic" first - then I will contact iLok support.

I absolutely cannot explain anything about it, tho I am now eager to hear the explanation you receive, if any. TBH, i didn't really pay any attention, but I did note the iLok thing, and then
quickly forgot all about it, until I read the title of this thread. :)

My concern ist, that they did something unusual to the iLok, which in my case holds hundreds of authorisations. I don’t like it when companies meddle with my computers and if they indeed have written something to the iLok without my credentials and using the iLok method they must have done so.

I get it... I have 459 activation's on my iLok 2 apparently.

Almost certainly they are reading the device ID which is unique and associating the activation record with that. So, the activation is then associated locally with a check to see if that unique device is present. You don't need to use the Pace SDK for this information. Note, I'm just speculating, I could be wrong.
