Windows 11 midi issues

Hi. I'm having issues since upgrading to a new Windows 11 PC.

The only midi controller I can get to connect is a Korg Microkey by using the Korg driver installer.

I'm trying to connect a mioxl to work primarily and having all sorts of issues with that. The Auracle X program was showing my device as connected at first but now I can't get it to connect.

I can't even get a generic DIN USB midi cable to work either.

I don't have the new windows midi service installed. I tried installing it manually from that Microsoft Catalog website and downloaded the correct one based on my computer specs and it won't even install.

Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!

Those Korg driver installers/uninstallers hose MIDI on Windows, as they always have. I have a tool that can fix that once you completely and fully uninstall the driver from Windows. (Instructions on the Discord server).

Unless you uninstalled something, if you are on Windows 11 24h2, 25h2, or 26h1, you already have Windows MIDI Services.

For support, go to the Discord server, read the #start-here post and then ask a question in the #midi-user-questions area if the #start-here post doesn't cover it for you. Note that the loopMIDI and inMusic fix also appears to fix the mioXL and mioXM.

Ok thanks! I ran midifixreg and it fixed some registry issues. Do I need teVirtualMIDI driver to run rtpMIDI still? It's not showing in the regedit drivers folder where it used to. Thanks!

If you're doing rtpMIDI, it doesn't work the latest update which installs MIDI 2.0 stuff. It breaks any driver that initializes after boot, which rtpMIDI does. You have to uninstall it until MS comes up with the fix supposedly late April. I'm on Win11 with MioXL using rtpMIDI. It 100% breaks seeing your MIDI ports in your DAW right now since the initial release of MIDI 2.0 update. Once you uninstall that update, the problem goes away.

The preview of the fix for that is also on the Discord server https://aka.ms/mididiscord in case you don't want to wait until the end of this month.

The other workaround is to restart the MIDI service after rtpMIDI has already loaded. But that's annoying to do. The issue isn't about anything that initializes after boot, but anything that creates dynamic ports after the MIDI Service has already started.

That got me back to where I'm able connect to the mioxl with rtp midi.

Now I just need to get that to work in my daw. Thanks

I can get the mioXL to show up in Auracle X but it won't work with my DAW for some reason. No midi in or out is being detected.

I also tried using just one of those generic USB midi devices and doesn't work either.

I can see the devices as available in my DAW but that's it.
