Looking for a host....I only need to load one VSTi/DXi at a time.
What im not seeing is a host/sequencer that facilitates time/tempo changes. I would prefer a step sequencer similar to BOSS units. For those not familiar, you get a pattern-editing section where you create your drum patters using a step sequencer. You can then set up a time/tempo map for your song and arrange your loops. (i.e. 130bpm-7/8@meas. 55....etc)

Been going through demos and havent yet been able to pull this off without automation. Thanks.

Welcome to KVR!

Only one VST/DX at a time? And then what do you do with it, render output to a WAV file you use in a multitrack recorder? That works just like frozen tracks then, hmmmm....

For step sequencing the StepChild is recommended. Not a host but a VST that generates midi data for the instrument to be played. To be used in hosts that don't have step sequencers, like Tracktion. Also maybe EnergyXT is able to do this. Reason has a step sequencer for sure, but can't load VSTi.

Tempo changes (in the middle of a song) are not very common. Doesn't surprise me that automation is the way to do it. Another way is just take all the vertical bars for granted (its only graphics) and just play the stuff at another tempo as you record it. Yes, that conflicts with step sequencing.

Whats the budget, and what material do you use most? Samples, loops, VST instruments, complete audio tracks?

Thanks for the welcome, C00kie.

You got it....I just render tracks to .wav and then dump them into an old version of Vegas. I just need to sequence BFD....that is the only VSTi that I am using. Im using a copy (again, old) of Synapse Orion to sequence it.

Theres probably a better way to do this once I get more hardware....but, as it sits, I am recording to the same hdd that BFD is streaming samples from....so I hesitate to do both at the same time for obvious reasons.

Yeah im not seeing anything similar to the BOSS-style time/tempo map either.....but I do use tempo changes quite frequently when switching time signatures...so I may need to get a lot more familiar with MIDI...haha.

Thanks again....and ill have a look at StepChild when I get home from work.

Oh yeah and as far as budget goes, ill pay what I have to to get an app with the feel im looking for....so long as the price isnt outlandish.
