Just released v0.7.7 of Niner, a free open-source kick drum synth from Hyperfocus DSP.

What it is:
  • Three-layer engine — SUB sine, MID sine+noise, band-passed click TOP, summed in parallel with a 909-style clap voice
  • Five-voice distortion palette (Sat Clip, Sat Diode, Sat Tape, Transformer drive, auto Master warmth) — each structurally different rather than five flavours of tanh
  • Master bus: RMS comp → transformer drive → brickwall limiter → auto tube warmth
  • Tilt / low-shelf / variable-Q notch master EQ
  • 16-step pattern sequencer, host-synced or internal transport
  • One-shot WAV/AIFF bounce, deterministic, off the audio thread
  • In-plugin MIDI Learn (right-click any knob, BPM, or PLAY) with auto-detected CC encoding — covers BeatStep, BCR2000, FaderFox, Pioneer, X-Touch out of the box
  • Sample-accurate MIDI NoteOn dispatch under JACK and DAW hosts
Free under GPL-3.0. VST3 + CLAP + Standalone. Linux x86_64, macOS (Apple Silicon + Intel), Windows x86_64.

What's missing: AU (nih-plug framework doesn't ship it, so Logic Pro can't load Niner — Reaper, Bitwig, Live, Cubase, Studio One, FL Studio, Renoise, and Ardour on Mac all work via VST3 or CLAP). Polyphony — it's a kick drum.

Genuinely interested in what controllers don't auto-detect their CC encoding correctly with MIDI Learn — if your hardware acts weird (encoder wraps the wrong way, knob jumps, won't bind at all), drop a note in this thread and I'll add coverage.
