Hi all,
I’m excited to introduce our first free plug-in, Lil’ Doc!
Lil’ Doc has a compressor based on the muscular, vinyl simulator effect in an early 00s workhorse sampler. It’s a powerful effect that’s found a cult following among lo-fi heads, and rightly so! I first implemented this compression algorithm for our paid plug-in Doctor Vibe, and the sound was so unique, I thought it would be a great first entry in our free plug-in series.
You get four controls:
- Slam, amount of compression
- Noise, vinyl noise and crackle
- Drive, clip the converters!
- Grade, four sample grades to choose
We spent a lot of time in the development phase of this algorithm trying to capture the magic of our hardware unit. In the end I think we came up with something really special that includes the full signal chain of the sampling workflow: vinyl source, into digital box, finally through that singular, Detroit-style compression.
Here's a quick YouTube demo:
Lil’ Doc works as an AAX, AUv2, AUv3, CLAP and VST3 plug-in on macOS, Windows, and iOS. You can pick it up for free over at our site:

If you give it a try, let us know what you think! We’ve got more free plug-ins and products on the way so be sure to sign up for our newsletter on the site, too.
Enjoy!

P.S. If you want to check out Doctor Vibe, Lil’ Doc’s paid big brother, you’ll get complete Vinyl, ADC/DAC, and Mix Slammer sections with much more control. You’ll also get our standard feature set which includes: A/B settings, auto bypass (useful for silencing the compressor output when not in use!), auto gain, HQ mode, Morph Settings, one-click loudness matching, presets, undo/redo, and more.
