So at the moment I play keyboard bass with live keys and backing trax comprised of drums and guitars, I’ve been thinking of going all live and just using a drum machine to go with the live bass and keys.
When I say keys it’s usually ac pno or EP layered with synths and/or organ.
Question is, would I get away with that? Would it be too boring for venue patrons?

Do others here run a similar setup?

Looking for opinions so anything goes really 😊

That depends on your audience. If they expect and appreciate a lot of live performance, then you're on the right track.

Secondly, how skilled are you at playing live instruments? The most important thing is the precise yet groovy interplay between bass and drums. So my advice: Practice that especially!

I've been actually doing it (keys bass and keys) for years, just never "brave" enough to do it live and abandon the "crutch" that is the backing trax, even though it is usually only drums and one guitar!

Was hoping for others "real world" experiences to share. Did the audience even notice? I like using the tracks as it allows a fuller sound, but I have heard guitarists with just a guitar and drum unit (like the Singular Sound Beatbuddy) and it seems to sound ok, but keyboards just don't seem to have that same rhythmic/percussive effect on the music.
