I've just got an SX8 but I am having problems with MIDI.
I'm having trouble selecting organ patches through MIDI - I can select the organ type (through MIDI) but not an actual patch. I also don't understand how to use Channel 14.
Also, Why do the patches seem higgledy-piggledy meaning that a Cakewalk instrument definition is hard (for me!) to implement. Thanks in anticipation!

Out of curiosity of a unknown brand I looked at ToneList document.
- everything but organ is selected through normal bank select and program select
- but those only select organ type in this case
- different drawbar registrations(presets( is CC 102 103 104 for upper, lower or pedal, with different values
- midi implementation chart says CC 81-90 and 92, 94, 95 are other parameters like overdrive and stuff

Did you look at these?
- one would assume Presets for organ would include other settings as well, like percussion, vibrato etc?
- but drawbar registrations are listed?

Really odd structure of that. Not easy since sequencers usually have bank + pc only.

Just a quick glance....

Thanks for the reply.
I have no problem with normal patch selection using normal bank select and program select, although the use of CC 0 and CC 32 did cause a bit of a headache, as I am used to just selecting a patch number from a pull-down list! It is just the organ I'm having trouble with - organ control is dealt with on chanel 14, but I can't find how to use it.

Midi Implementation pdf is your friend.
It also says "defautl ch=14" meaning that it can be set somewhere if you want this on some other channel.

So normal midi CC stuff according to spec for the parameter, but on a special channel then.
- like drums often is ch 10 etc, but you do midi notes too on ch 10
- this case ch 14 but ordinary CCs

I would say standard midi ch for a new midi track/instrument is 1, so just change the midi channel on the track where you have stuff meant for ch 14.
- but the bank + pc on a midi track will not work straight up for organ, it seems

If it doesn't conflict with anything on ch 1, these midi CCs I mean, you can put it all there.
- but maybe that is full of other features on same midi CCs?

On my XK3c Hammond I do upper manual on ch 1, lower on ch 2 and pedal on ch 3.

I would look for if there is a button to send current preset you are running and all parameters for it, so you can record a clip at beginning of track.
- to send back later

Did you do INS-files, that can select patches from a synth from a text file definition in computer?

Here from an INS file, just normal text, for Roland Integra, similar to Dexibell
.Patch Names
[INTEGRA-7 Studio Set]
0=1:Integra Preview
1=2:Full Orch Set
2=3:Chamber Orch Set

default.ins is general midi and start like this
[General MIDI]
0=Acoustic Grand Piano
1=Bright Acoustic Piano
2=Electric Grand Piano
3=Honky-tonk Piano
4=Rhodes Piano
5=Chorused Piano

but did not do myself, not sure how to set channel to send on and bank if needed?
- you setup midi instruments like that
- and can then from daw select a preset

Just search internet how to create INS files for your instruments you want quick select for!

Many synths have what they call Performance patches, that are a number of presets and a full set up for them
- not sure if you encountered?
- thinking these organ stuff maybe could be setup similar with drawbars, percussion, vibrato etc

I WOULD ASK DEXIBELL IF THEY HAVE AN INS FILE FOR IT AS DEFAULT?
- could help you get started easier

A few more thoughts...
