High pitch whine in my ears

what the heck guys. I have been sitting and playing at my daw quite many hours in the last few weeks. Not at very high volumes, as I tend to avoid using cans.

Although last week I started to hear this whine, stronger in my right ear, which may be due to the fact that my right ear is more exposed when I sit and play.

I must admit that some of my vst synths have a devastating potential, even at not so loud volumes: Synth1 for one, some of the user contributed patches are so loud and unpleasant sounding.

So my questions:

1 are we all screwed on the long run?

2 could the whine in the ears be caused by other factors: I have been researching a bit on this issue and some people point out other factors as pain killer pills, coffein, nicotine (?), sleep deprivation, wax or infections in the ears

Please feel free to contribute as this thing scares the heck out of me: hearing loss is the ultimate tragedy for a musician. No shit.

Turn off the CRT, see if it goes away.

Heh, good point. Leonard, I assume the whine stays no matter where you go? If so it sounds very like tinnitus, and should be looked at.

If it happens only around your CRT, you need a new flyback transformer. ;-)

Thank you for tuning in, Meffy. You assumed right, it has nothing to do with my CRT. I guess I'll make an appointment with my physician.

Good news: hearing problems can be reversible. Depends on the individual situation, of course. Catching it early is the best thing. Sounds like you've done that. :-)

Best of luck to you,

Im sorry man, just in a weird mood today. I mean no harm. I agree that you should go to a doc and get it checked.

I have a scortching case of tinnitus from my car stereo days...(why did I think I needed a 140+ db car?!?!?!?! :-o )

heh heh- it usually had the opposite effect, since all my money went in to power draining devices instead of power producing devices. I would experience dimming headlights, dead batteries, and dead alternators... Another reason I am convinced that I was slightly retarded in my teenage years....
