Gothic organs?

Where do I find a decent gothic organ sound?
I already own Charlie VST but I can't seem to find a really good gothic organ sound preset, so I thought I'd pop this question on the forums.
If anyone knows a decent gothic organ sound I'd really appreciate it. I do know that Genycis has a pretty good one for $2 (now that's what I call cost effective!), but I was wondering if there were others out there that I don't know about.
Thankyou.
Cheers,
Ben

What's exactly a "Gothic" organ? Just an organ typically used in the Gothic style?
When the style was invented I imagine they used just any organ that they liked. What type does it resemble? Is it like a Hammond or more like the old-fashioned church (pipe) organ?
Maybe you need to construct the sound. Take a basic vanilla organ & put it through some suitable effects.

For reasonable pipe organ sound on the cheap, try the Jeux soundfont. Be sure to heap some reverb on it or it won't sound at all realistic. With a church-sized space reverberating around it's not half bad.
You can find more organ soundfonts here, including baroque and gothic church organs, and modern electronic organs.
For truly authentic, genuine pipe organ sound, painstakingly sampled a note at a time from real organs, you should buy the extremely powerful Hauptwerk.

I own GPO and EWQLSO Silver, both of these have organs, including the Hauptwerk but I'm not sure if these have a gothic sound. I've tested them out but I'll listen to them again.

Do you perhaps have a short MP3 of an organ playing the style of sound that you are looking for? It would help if we knew what sort of Gothic sound you want. There are so many different variations available on even a modest sized organ, that it's practically impossible to know exactly what you are looking for.benjamind wrote:I own GPO and EWQLSO Silver, both of these have organs, including the Hauptwerk but I'm not sure if these have a gothic sound. My first guess is a decent liturgical pipe organ emulation (or samples), playing a tutti-style registration, through an impulse response reverb, such as SIR or Pristine Space, along with a suitable cathedral impulse file. On the other hand, you could be wanting something that sounds totally different.
take care,
McLilith (I just happen to be an organ tech.)

When I think "Gothic organ", I think Baroque - the type of organ one might play Toccata & Fugue in Dm on. And lots of reverb.
Alas, as a Hammond fan, I'm not much good there, although I like the Jeux soundfont. If I ever get around to midi-fying the church Hammond, I may hook Hauptwerk to it.

I just listened to a little of what Midnight Syndicate have on their web site. If the organ sound in Gates of Delirium is what you are after, you will need an organ voice which has primarily several layers of principal stops playing at various octaves, and a decent cathedral or church reverb VST. There might well be some stops besides principals included in the mix, but the principal voices dominate in this type of organ sound.benjamind wrote:Listen to the two songs "Gates of Delerium" and "Requiem" by Midnight Syndicate for the organ sounds I am after.
I have to leave the house at this very moment, but I'll look for something appropriate to suggest when I return.

Just bopping back in to say that the Hauptwerk I referred to is a distinct product by that name, not something that can be used with other samplers as far as I know. Very nice sound but it might be overkill for just one song. :-)
I don't know the artist or songs you mentioned, so can't help you to pin it down further. McLilith should be able to help there though.
Best of luck!

You might want to give the Grebbestad Church Organ a try: http://www.gtownsounds.com/
It's a 103MB Giga, but you can download it as a 60MB exe. It only has one stop combo (tutti) , but it's free, and sounds fantastic with the "Chicago Church" or "Unfinished Chapel" IR's from http://www.noisevault.com/ loaded into SIR: http://www.knufinke.de/sir/index_en.html
A smaller (but still nice) church organ with more stops (Plein Jeux, Principaux, Fonds, Tremblant, etc.) is Jeux d’orgues 2.1: http://www.basquin.freesurf.fr/jeuxdorgues/
(it's more recent than the 2.0 version on Hammersound)
Good Luck!
