Hello everyone,
I'm thinking of buying live 4. Do you think it can act as a complete host, to replace cubase etc?
And can anyone tell me, can i use multi-out VST's in it?? Like in cubase.
I know i can rewire it, i just want to settle on one program.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
pete.

Settling on one program may not be the best idea in principal...kippertoffee wrote:Hello everyone,

...but if you really want ONE program to do everything you're probably better off with Cubase. Live 4 will not do (for example) notation, wave editing, GM, Freeze, PDC...
...on the other hand it IS an awesome program, and personally I DO use it as my main host (in preference to Cubase SX1, which I have uninstalled...)
But I have to qualify that by pointing out I have other software in the mix, too (see signature below) and my view is to use a range of products which deliver the best results across a range of seperate specialisms...

You can.kippertoffee wrote:And can anyone tell me, can i use multi-out VST's in it??
No, far more flexible. Live's audio-routing is about the most flexible, yet most simple of any DAW.kippertoffee wrote:Like in cubase.

I have Sonar, Wavelab, and other hosts, but I spend most of my time in Live 4. If I had to keep only one program, Ableton Live would be it.kippertoffee wrote:Hello everyone,

Similar situation here. Logic (power)user for more than a decade, I use Live4 more and more to produce complete tracks. MIDI editing has to be enhanced though.EnzymeX wrote:I have Sonar, Wavelab, and other hosts, but I spend most of my time in Live 4. If I had to keep only one program, Ableton Live would be it.

It's like everything else... If you get used to Live, you might decide to use only Live. If you get used to say, Cubase, you might use it AND Live, ot maybe not use Live at all... But, it (Live) does sort of require a different approach... I've been using it a lot lately, and using Reason to program drums and pads and saving them out as audio loops for Live... My Logic 7.0 is sort of collecting dust right now... while their working on 7.1, I'm using Live and Reason (hopefully 3.0 soon)...
