Just tried the demo. Installed a whole bunch of Window stuff (MySQL and god knows what else), then proceeded to freeze my computer solid.
Congratulation, Sony, you've made the one and only app that was able to completely freeze my computer in 2004; thank God I did not install this on my DAW, and to think the year was almost over...

Acid lost me as a customer at Version 4, along with quite a few others. Really was a bugfest then. Thankfully Audition came onto the market and allowed an upgrade path for existing cooledit2000 users – yeah! Now there is a cool alternative, Audition is the way to go to replace Acid plus the integrated wave editor is both powerful and seamless to use. If thats your way of working, check out Audition.

Yeah, the thing is they have something very good with Vegas, and I thought Acid would complement it well. Guess not...

If you have installed the Acid Demo (or full version), go to Windows Update and get the latest patches. Acid installs some Microsoft components that need security patches.

I didn't know about the security patch, but I saw the demo installed a bunch of unwanted Window components. I guess thoses will stay even if I remove the Acid demo.thenumber23 wrote:If you have installed the Acid Demo (or full version), go to Windows Update and get the latest patches. Yeah that SQL Server installation is really a stupid thing to do IMO. And then it runs in the backgropund and uses a lot of ram even if you're not using acid, not to mention the possible security issues. Fortunately you can manually uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs in control panel. You'll lose media manager in Acid, but I don't care much about this. Otherwise Acid 5 has quite a few very cool new features. Midi is still crap, but looping and audio sequencing is better than ever. Grooovvvvvvvve man
Even the one clip per track limitation isn't that bad anymore, because you can group tracks in folders, and there's of course native VST support...

Wow...it's bad enough that the industry treats Acid like a stepchild and that Sonar among others borrows heavily from what Acid started..but when users blame the app for problems because they don't keep their systems updated it's a shame.I have been with Acid Pro since version 2.0 and recently upgraded from 4.0 to 5.0 and I love it.The addition of VST FX and the NI Express Keyboards bundle are a real plus. The Media Manager slows things down a bit if you have a lot of samples on your hard drive but still works fine. There are a few freebie VSTi that the program is not compatible with, but that can happen with any host. Also the minimum requirements have increased maybe it's time to upgrade your system.

Yep! I had the same crap fed to me at version 4, still what a monster on the PC - I have a P4HT 3 gig with 2 gig of ram - and acid 4 was a pig to run on it. Do you think I need an upgrade?
however Audition is smooooth. so I will stick with that for what I did in Acid.

LAME LAME LAME!
TIP: You can disable all the SQL crap and then turn off the media manager in Acid.
This program is major disappointment. The MIDI implemntation is dreadfull (and identially to the prevision version). Loading a VST plug takes forever. Its even buggier and slower than the last
versio.
Really after X years of work what did they improve? Acid is going to be wiped out by Ableton unless Sony
gets off their arse and comes up with oringinal improvements.
Example:
In record mode the interface is essentially locked! Why not tie tracks to the VST and have record controls on each track? Has Sony not seen Ableton Live? (now there is an example of seamless midi/audio recording!). Ditch the record methodology (no more dialog box!) and start from scratch Sony!

The reason I mentioned Windows Update is because there is no trigger to alert a user that installing a Sony product might cause a security flaw in Windows.when users blame the app for problems because they don't keep their systems updated it's a shame
I'm not against Acid - I'm actually planning on buying Acid 5 today as it will serve my needs. However, all potential users should know about the security flaw that is exposed after installing Acid. This blame partly resides on Microsoft's shoulders for not providing the latest components to Sony.

acid4 was a bug-ridden load of pox and now acid5 - being equally bug-ridden - has finally finished the app for good. i don't think there will be a version 6.
sony has completely lost the plot. midi remains an unworkable joke and other fundamentals haven't been touched. instead there's a bunch of little gimmicks that are meant to justify the $149 upgrade price
i compare this to the recent fl studio upgrade and laugh. sony must be in cuckoo land.
also i noticed that sony were running an acid5 advert here that said something like "acidpro 5: now the most comprehensive music recording software". but the ad only seemed to last a day - probably because even sony knew that it was absolute bullshite.
this is all so sad though since i am an acid user since years ago. i had really hoped for something special. but instead it is garbage....

Rip on me all you want I run Acid Pro 5.0 on a 4 year old IBM Net Vista with 1.5 ghz Pentium 4 with 128 ram with no problem.I'm all about the music not hardware/software elitism!I know many people that run ancient systems but manage to create great music. It's what you do with what you got that counts.Acid is the only music app that I have paid for other than my M-Audio Ozone everything I use I got for free either off the internet or on CD's from Computer Music. If you don't like a piece of software don't use it!You're wasting time better spent making music!!

So far, I'm pleased with Acid 5 and I haven't run into any snags along the way. Yeah, the Media Manager is pretty much useless as is the Groove template thingy IMO but all and all, it's still a decent program. As far as Acid 4 being "buggy", I cannot recall once instance where I had an issue (aside from shitty plugins). Maybe I've just been lucky.
