As far as I understood it, the shop pays the full price for the udpate, and gets a part refunded once a VST dongle is sent back. Steinberg stopped shipping this update a few months back, so I'm not sure if you still can upgrade to SX for 'cheap'.

@crusces: the problem is: I already ordered that update back in july, but the shop failed to deliver and blames steinberg for that...
Rumors are that there are some packages left in stores around the globe. As long as you got the package, you're allowed to update.
