Looking for a tool to do scoring for a band... back in the day I used to have something call MusicTraks or some such. Was looking for something along these lines. Would be nice if it didn't cost an armload of money too.

Thanks helpful KVR-ers

Generally, I've found that a program either does sequencing or sheet music well, but not both. I use Sonar, but its sheet music is just kinda passable. I have Finale Printmusic for scoring, but its playback is GM. I also have PowerTracks, but like Sonar. FLS can export MIDI that you can dress up in a program like Printmusic, but that's separate from the actual playback.

I can't think of one right off-hand that does scoring WELL and also supports VSTI, but I'd be interested in seeing what's out there.

Thanks for starting me in the right direction. Ended up settling on PrintMusic 2004 by MakeMusic!, doesn't support VST :( but it seems to offer the basics of scoring.

hutch_stevens: Have you thought about Music Studio Independance? At the moment it's free (sort of). But it has scoring and VST support (though it's a little lengthy and you have to read _all_ the sparse docs to find out how to add them). But it might be worth playing around with?
