I've been looking into sample CDs for Choirs but I'm not really looking for something massive like "Symphony Of Voices" (still £300 here) or VOTA.

Anyway, I've seen 2 CDs that look almost identical.

1 - Best Service: Classical Choir (which is ~ £50)
2 - Prosamples vol. 13: Choir (which is ~ £30)

The thing is, the prosamples one has a miniature picture of the Best Service CD cover on the front, which makes it look like a re-release.

Does anyone have these, or know if there's a dramatic reduction of samples on the Prosamples version?

Get the BestService CD, the other just contains a small selection of it, in 3 different formats.

Midiworks: Thanks, I was a bit suspicious that the reviews for the Prosample CDs were for the Best Service CD and the audio example was the same between them.

Just one more question. (to anyone, really!)

There's a choice of AKAI or Audio CD. The AKAI is a bit more expensive.

Is this because the seperate WAVs (or binary audio data) have been compiled into multi-samples for AKAI. Or are all the AKAI samples seperated? In which case I'm better off ripping the audio CD to seperate WAVS and putting them together in either Vienna or energyXT? I can easily covert AKAI to other formats, but only if the AKAI version is more convenient.

I don't think audio cds contain waves. They are audio like a regular music cd.

For choirs you might also want to check out SoundScan Vol. 28 from www.usbsounds.com . It’s 38 euros and has some nice male, female and children’s choirs. Here’s an mp3 demo from the USB website:

Here again a clear answer from me:
Get the Akai version !
There is the newer 'extended' version with far more samples on it.
If I remember right it comes on 2 CD roms.

These roms are very well made !
You can not even get close by cuting and editing the
audio CD yourself.

I was going to suggest this as well. It's probably the most underrated sample library here. Great sounds and LOT'S OF THEM ! People are forever asking for chior VSTIs, but this library also contains a nice collection of electronic choirs as well. The real choirs come in soft and hard versions ( piano and fortissimo) Highly recommended.

Regarding the ProSamples series, I wanted to buy the Orchestral one, however the noise on string samples was just too much. I couldn't believe that this comes from a more expenseve library. Rubbish.

Thanks everyone.

I already have a large amount of synthetic choirs courtesy of various sound modules I've collected in the past, so I'm mostly looking for natural choirs. That said, I've just ordered the Extended version.

I actually got a really nice email from someone at Best Service pointing out the differences between the prosample and original versions. Picking the prosample one would've meant missing out on tons of stuff from the original, but I'm sure the prosamples one is pretty good for the price, however I've decided to go for the Extended version.

I would've gone for the Symphony of Voices, but the EastWest Orchestra GOLD offer seems to good to miss at the price.
