Just bought one of those Scarbee fingered bass $39 packs.

Awesome realism :ud:

I was going to maybe get Trilogy or Majestic for Xmas as I'd really like good electric bass.

But now I have 39 bucks worth of Scarbee, that's it.

Scarbee's extra strength comes from its key switching / mod wheel action.

It's possible to select which string any given note is playing on, as in E-A-D-G, and then add any from 25 articulations - at any time.

So, no machine gun, and always interesting.

Plus the awesome sound of 7 or 8 layered samples.

How does this make me feel?

Well, when playing live bass I always get this great feeling that the sound could bust down buildings if I walked down the street playing :-o

Tonight I got this from a sample set 8)

Where did you get this and what are you using for a sampler? Their web site says J-Fingered is $99? Is this not the same thing?

Thanks,

Your post made me go check out the Scarbee site, and I have to say that those demo's are incredibly impressive.

I'm a bass player, it's my main instrument -- and there is NO DOUBT (to my ears) that the demo's on the Scarbee site are utterly indistinguishable from a real player. I had heard lots of people talk up the Scarbee stuff, but for some reason never checked them out. But I'm simply blown away by the realistic performances in those demo's. It's not just the TONE, which is fantastic -- it's all the LITTLE things (grace notes, noises, etc) that have me stunned.

THEREFORE, my question is this: Would you comment on how easy it is to make tracks that sound that realistic? I mean, i hear you saying the mod wheel switches strings, but in general, how easy is it to add in all the hammer-on's and fret noise and all that stuff that the demo's have?

And while I'm at it, I would LOVE to hear even the most rough little demo YOU can make with this collection. I almost feel like "the rougher the better" because I'm no killer keyboard player or programmer -- I want to hear someone who might be as "bad" as me! :)

(so if you're a great player, please "play dumb" for me, seriously -- I want to know what *I* could do with this "out of the box")

Hopefully you catch my meaning, and can help me find out if this is as great as it seems.

Anyway, THANKS for the heads-up...

Read the online manual at Scarbee.

It explains how to midi edit the different strings, and apply the different articulations.

It's easy enough, if a bit nit-picky to do. Like ... playing a riff can take a few minutes, but editing it might take half an hour.

The Scarbee demos are genuine. It sounds that good if not better.

Write and ask Scarbee if they're genuine. He's a courteous man and will reply promptly.

btw I have no connection with Scarbee. I just think the bass is one of my best finds for the year.

A few days ago I was ready to spring for Majestic or Trilogy, and now I've got something really terrific for $39 :D

The only downside is the size of the samples. They're 300 and odd meg so bouncing will be inevitable.
