I have been very frustrated lately as well but for different reasons (at least I think it is not related to plugins.
I have been having problems, starting today with my music pc, decided to upgrade my OS and since then I have been having automatic reboots, missing files and graphic mayhem.
It makes me want to throw the god damn machine out the window (I had to restrain myself several times from putting my foot throuh the moniter). To top it off I am having problems with getting system restore to work.
Maybe we should put a vodoo curse on Bill Gates and Steve Jobs

I upgraded over the old OS. I did it on my net machine and had some problems there as well but got it all worked out. I have been wanting to get a new MOBO and faster processor so maybe it is time I did that, not looking forward to reinstalling all my software
Running disc check now to see if I can get system restore working again and go back to the old SP1 OS. I had this machine working great for the past year, My HD is full so a little cleaning is in order too I think.

Seriously, it's times like this when I really wish that somebody would Make a full fledged modern DAW on Linux. If even half of the mac, or a quarter of the PC FX were available....
one thing that sucks about Traction getting bought out by Mackie is that I seem to recall the developer thinking seriously of porting to Linux.
Also, why hasn't Ableton ever thought of this? Wouldn't that be tits for live use?

I would hate to use Linux for music, as I like to make music, not muck around with the OS. I never could get into Linux, it was way more troublesome than XP.
My experience is quite the oppostite, I started with Windows 98 and it was an absolute piece of shit. Switched to XP and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Fuckin blah blah. Its nothing to do with windows. Linux is equally as crap, if not worse than windows. The problem is bad programming in VST plugins. I used to use logic 4/win for days without crashing. Seriously I would have it loaded up with certain select stable VSTs and I would have it running for sometimes 3 days straight without rebooting. I had some problems at first and it took me a while to find out what VST's are crap and unstable, but when I did, it was perfect. Just use solid plugins.

Jules is (or at least was) working on a Linux port for JUCE, which Tracktion is based on. He has mentioned it since Mackie took over distribution of Tracktion (I think Raw Material still owns the full Tracktion IP), so I don't think it is out of the question.machinesworking wrote:Seriously, it's times like this when I really wish that somebody would Make a full fledged modern DAW on Linux. I'm not even going to get into the whole Windows/Linux debate...
