Keys Please (?)

Hi all. I haven't played the keys in quite some time, and I realized I am beyond rusty. For the last 2 years I've only made music entirely by computer, but it's a little slow/tedious. I searched, came up empty for how to get better with the piano. My questions are:

1. Good cheap synth/controller? - what's the practical min key # to rehearse w/ both hands/registers?
2. Any experience with some good books/ DIY courses?
read music n all but just soooo rusty with fingerings, could probably start from scratch again - I'd actually prefer that as those first few weeks of zooming through lessons will be encouraging, instead of trying to play Lizst from the get-go.

Any thoughts appreciated.
