I need an MAC application that can convert aiff files from a CD to mp3 files to a folder on the Mac.

Recommendations for freeware or shareware applications please.

Maybe LAME? Not sure if it's in the Fink database.
If it is, get ready to hack those command-lines.

Create a new playlist with your aiffs - select all the files you want - click advanced - convert selection to mp3!
