I could be wrong, but it occurs to me that most people sits in their bedroom doing songs by themselves. And when we do collaborate with other people, it's with someone 2000 miles away and it's usually a one off experience. Are we really just a bunch of loners.

Never considered getting "a band in your bedroom"?
Or is it more a matter of, "why bother, I can play keys, guitar, sing and mix myself anyway". Or is it simply a case of "whoa....that sounds way too serious for me".

So, are you a loner?

Post

You're right. Good music usually comes from specialists collaborating. To many of us (guilty) are trying to be Mike Oldfield and failing.
And let's face it, Mike was shit.

I'm a loner, yep. Of course I could say that I don't know other people with this kind of interest except on KVR, have no schedule to meet other people, bla bla, but the fact is that I am a loner.

i can spend ages not doing any music.
and then i freak out and do nothing but music for a while.
and then i throw everything away a week later, cause i think it's "below my current ability"...

i guess i would not mix well with other people.
but hey, maybe it would force me to actually finish stuff, who knows :?

of course i'm a bloody dictator as well, and slaves are hard to find these days :hihi:

I work alone because none of my friends share my interests. I'd love to collab but properly, i.e. work in the same room as another, more from a point of view of mutual learning. But as Armadillo may testify I don't have the confidence in my own abilities to pursue that idea. Plus it's only a hobby. and I'd never fit a whole band in my bedroom.

We are all loners eh?
Well I suppose you have the advantage of not having to argue with anyone

All my collaborations are online.

I've done the band thing & it's better for me not to have a physically accessable target once someone manages to become a focus for my aggression..

That & two other reasons:

Where I am at, theer's not much of a music scene at all. At least not one that I'm instrested in..

Time constraints of bineg a family man sort of preclude any consistant 'band practice'..

BUt I do enjoy collaborating far more than doing my own stuff although I'm becoming more comfortable with solo work..

ciao,

Im 80% to 90% loner. I have only considered the idea of working with other people musically as an experiment and something of intrest. Most of my fave music seems to come from solo artists or duo's. There are exceptions but in general I find it to be the case.

Im too into the music to want to be in a band, too many people would ruin the music, or at least greatly restrict it for me. Its not like I need to play with a live band set up, so Im staying on my own with it.

I think it would be too much of a compromise to compose with other people as the primary way to do my music.

I dont know anyone else into this stuff other than on the internet. Plus no band would have me

Loner? I wish. That bunch of bickering groupies here is so annoying at times! :tantrum:
There you got a great musical idea and one starts nibbling on your earlap, trying to get your attention while you attempt to play something in. Or while you're at the phone, equally as annoying!
Its like they're hyenas who sense when you want to concentrate on something. Know what I mean?

I never work 'really' alone.

1. My wife sings on a couple of my numbers
2. A couple of tracks has 'invited' musicians

Beside that, we have a very nice collaboration project on www.karamusic.tk

I should add that I've never done a proper collab, but I have had input from others - namely Krim and DT for which I'm grateful.

The other thing that I've noticed is that a fresh pair of ears can be helpful with a work in progress. Preferably someone who knows what they like but doesn't know how to do it, that's helped me in the past.

... And I would never play in a band that accepts a member like me :x

I think it is more a matter of distance.

I've worked now on a few occassions with a few kvr-members in one room/studio. I can tell you it certainly takes on a new level being able to directly communicate, work and most of all learn. I've come to learn that everyone I meet or work with has a different way of working.

Right now I am doing a collab track with rsmus7 for the sin-cd; he's not living too far off from here so we had two sessions together now. Both being great I can tell you :)

Emmm, so I don't think I'm such a loner, but I sure love to work on things alone too.

There's been a lot of internet-collabing happening here at kvr too and some incredibly great songs have come out of it (I'm thinking of the game-collabs early summer).

I wouldn't call it loners though who prefer to work on their own.

Nah, not always. I sometimes do stuff with me mate Shaun, usually quite different than me solo stuff, eg, UK hip-hop/ragga...

or even a bit of soul-pop with Imogen singing;

Though he didn't like it when I told him that one sounded like the Beautiful South. :hihi:

Always good for a change from the indierokk though.
