Okay, so here is a dumb noob question for you all. I have several years of experience recording live audio in programs such as Cubase, Vegas, etc... But, I am now interested in getting into synthesis and samplers. So, I have been researching my options... and I must say, I am confused.

The first thing program I am interested in getting is something to do orchestration with. My question and confusion is over whether to go with Gigastudio 3.0 (using rewire) or with something like EWQLSO (using a VSTi instrument).

So, I guess my question is... what is the difference between using something like rewire and something like VSTi? Which is better? Can both a rewire application and a VSTi be played in real time using a midi keyboard while listening to actual recorded audio tracks? HELP!

Large Orchesteral library's eat up a lot of recources(Ram/CPU ect.)making it difficult to manage in addition to multiple tracks, other plugins and VSTi's simultaneously. With a VSTi sampler like Kontakt/Kompakt,you can alway's freeze the results if your host features it,with Rewire, your stuck with the sampler eating resources unless you use Giga's capture or render it with your program externally which can interrupt work flow.Personnaly,I'd consider Giga 3 only on a seperate dedicated machine as it still can be problematic aside from being heavy resource-wise,or Kontakt(much less resource heavy) if you plan on using one machine. That's been my experience so far.

ReWire is a work around and sometimes problematic.

I agree with noexitrecords if you get a top notch sampler like Kontakt , V-Sampler or Halion then you can play GiGA files in the VSTi enviroment.

It will not be 100% the same as using Gigasampler,
so it's a work around again but it will yield safer results then ReWire.

The good news is that you can download Demo versions of all these samplers and test it for yourself before purchasing.
