this is the card in my wifes' computer..in trying to record even just plain talking, it didn't sound good. So I thought she neeed some kind of preamp, so I bought her a eurorack 802a, just like I use (except mines a 602a).
It still does not sound any better, and I've tried all of my mic's. I've got the line running from the mixer to the card, plugged in on the one with the mic icon. I used to use this before I got my 2496, but I know it didn't sound this shitty. Seems like there's some secret, but I don't remember what it is.
Help!
we've been trying to record in audacity.

OUTCH !!! Quickly, put it in the LINE input. Yes it is a microphone signal, but after the mixer it has become Line level. I hope that was the secret...bluedad wrote:I've got the line running from the mixer to the card, plugged in on the one with the mic icon

Don't use the mic input on the sb live, it is crap.
You don't need it with external preamp, just go from the eurorack 802a to the line in of the live and things should be better.
Edit: C00kie was faster...
