I bought NI Komplete Care 2005 so you can guess what I'm curious about.
And I'm praying for Korg Legacy Collection II with a Z1 controller

A quote from gearslutz.
" Roland new release...
As I heard from my friend, who is Roland dealer for my country, they will release NEW sound module, with 256 voices, GIANT Wave ROM ( more than 2GB ) with 8 SRX cards slots, and new, fast FLASH RAM (maybe 2GB) for transfering samples from and to computer with Fire Wire interface, and direct communication with computer both ways, acting as plug-in synth and virtual instrument host, with 8 24/96 analog outs, useable as audio outs from computer. Also they will support surround up to 7.1, and include all necessary software, and compatibility with most major sequencers and DAWs. The rack will be 2U with bigger than usual (color) display and maybe DVI out for external TFT/LCD monitors.
Maybe only rumor, but sounds interesting? "

So this is where you have their hardware and a piece of software running that allows the computer to see the hardware as a VSTi?Mighty_Hero wrote:Pretty sure the virus ti will be there.

Exactly. And if bmanic's rumors are correct, Roland has one too.m0zart wrote:So this is where you have their hardware and a piece of software running that allows the computer to see the hardware as a VSTi?Mighty_Hero wrote:Pretty sure the virus ti will be there.

Not on the heels of the Fantom X/XR, they won't. Hardware manufacturers tend to follow product lifecycles closely, especially in small markets.
Anyhow, smacks of MLAN/Virus TI jealousy. And why a video out when a computer editor is so much cheaper for the manufacturer and the consumer? And why video out if it presents itself as a plugin?
And 24/96? Nope. That'd require a massive reworking of all soft/hard elements of the system (the way Roland/Korg/Yammy keep R&D costs down is by recycling technologies through its product lines). Which means this product has been in development for at least the last two/three years. And means that its DSP chips either have more than doubled in power practically overnight (since the release of the Fantom X), or there are twice as many in the box. Four times as many, if you count the polyphony.
Nope. Sorry.
Disclaimer: Of course this is all opinion and I'd love to see a synth like that...

I agree that it sounds way too risky and very unlikely from roland but they do surprise every now and then. Besides, the JV and now extended with XV and then Fantom X is a very old engine. It's about time roland made a new synth. We'll see in a couple of weeks if that rumor is true.mjones4th wrote:Not on the heels of the Fantom X/XR, they won't.
